So, since I BC'd (which I did myself, not professionally), I have had 2 sections in my hair where the hair seemed looser than the rest. I do not think it is heat damage because I am EXTREMELY liberal in my application of heat protectant, and I use medium heat, passing over each section only twice.

Also, when I am shingling, those sections will curl slightly, but are more 3a ish than my usual 4a. I figured if it were heat damage, it'd be permanently straight?

I just hate trying to do twists, twistouts or braidouts and the ends will be stringy :ohwell:

I want to do a protein treatment on those sections to see if my coils will be revived, but idk yet. I don't wanna cut them out because the spots would be noticeable...

Any suggestions?

I'll try to post pics later on.

It might be your natural hair texture. When I did my BC, I noticed that i have 3 different textures in my hair. My hair is a 4a/b on the sides and nape. 3c patches (2 quarter sized areas) in my crown and a wirey kinky straight section with little curl definition at the top. It continues to grow that way out of my head..lol. My twist / twistouts always look like I have 3 different textures in my hair unless I do really large twist..lol (at least I notice it...others may not..... Maybe you can rod set the straighter areas with really small rods to make them match the reat of your texture a little more.

Heat protectant is not a fool-proof way to prevent heat damage. You can still get heat damage even being careful.

I have the same issue and for me it definitely isn't heat damage because I haven't used any heat on my hair for almost a year. Plus, I had a major trim before I went on my heat strike. It's just that I have three different textures: the sides are a 4b, there's a big horseshoe area on top that is just straight with very little curl and the back looks like a 4a/3c. I just can't do twists so I do twist outs. I must say this explains why my hair was so damaged when I did relaxers, the relaxer was in for the same amount of time on each of my three sections.

I have the same question! When I wash my hair it gets super curly except just these 2 pieces of hair. They stay straight like relaxed ends. My relaxer is fully grown out. I was debating just cutting them off, but they're kind of long and I DON'T WANT TO!!! :(

That's a great point! Maybe something for stylists or those who self-relax to think about.

OP- is your hair looser from the root? After I BC'd, I would keep finding straighter pieces of hair and kept trying to cut them out until over time I realized they're that way when they grow in. It might be the same for you.
