Just wanted to know if you have experiences of your SO relaxing you hair?

I want to relax my hair but I do not want a salon to do it. I want to do it myself but think it would be better for my husband to do. He'll be able to see what he is doing. I've asked him and he said he'd love to do it.

But I'd like to know if others have good or bad stories to tell:rolleyes:

Wow...You just brought back memories...My Dad used to help my Mom apply her relaxer and help her rinse it out...He would even roll her hair when she did rollersets...( It was also funny seeing this big man over 6'1 helping his wife with her hair)...Hahahah

hehehe....awww, how sweet!

My SO just helped me do my texturizer yesterday! He cares about my hair almost as much as I do, so that helps. I applied the relaxer myself, and I did it in two sections. He wanted to do it, but it was my first time and I wanted to get the hang of it. He did help me with applying at the area separating my two sections, making sure not to touch the section I wasn't working on. He also rinsed and neutralized. This was key, because I wanted to make sure the relaxer was completely out. He did a great job...I'll probably let him do the application next time.

Ah brilliant. This is giving me more confidence.

I recommend getting a 2nd mirror that will help you see the back. That was really helpful too.

I really think a SO id an ideal person to help. We did two strand tests and he knew how much curl I wanted left and was monitoring that timer like a hawk! He's been trying to do my hair for a while now, and it was nice to have a good scalp massage!

Man, that is so nice when hubby's pitch in like that. I beg my dh to just clip my ends and he looks at me like I'm crazy cuz I am crazy when it comes to my hair.

If I only could get him to feel confident that I will not act crazy.

BUT, he taught me how to cut, line and fade his hair so he doesn't have to go the barber. When he taught me, it was by trial and error. Yet, it is easier with just a cut. You can't do a trial and error with a relaxer though.

I'm natural but DH has helped me put in a Brazilian Keratin Treatment as well as helped me take down a sew-in weave & take down crochet braids. He sometimes helps moisturize my hair (under crochet braids) when he sees me grab the spray bottle at before bed.

He cares about my hair as much as I do. I cannot braid my own hair (can't get the angle I need). I want him to take a braiding class but he is resistant. lol lol

I was going to have my hubby help me with mine on Thursday....until he kept saying "he knows how to paint my hair" :lachen:.

My husband used to hold the second mirror I would use for self relaxing and would help me rinse out the back. I got the hang of it now so he is off the hook but is always happy to help...

He used to do my relaxers when we moved here and I couldn't find a hairdresser. It was very sweet of him but after a while my hair broke off a lot. Not only he did not have the proper technique or dexterity to apply the relaxer within the proper amount of time, I was using Affirm normal which burned a lot. I switched to Affirm mild and found a dominican hairdresser who's also a friend now and my hair has flourished. :)
