I just come from whole foods restocking on my essential oils. And was researching each on the web. (My trips to whole foods usually last an hour or so) anyway every site has the same disclaimer "these statements are not supported by the fda" or "these products are not meant to treat cure or prevent any disease". So what do you guys think? Is it all hype or are you seeing real benefits from your eo?

I couldn't care less what FDA says. A lot of the things FDA approves are actually not good for you, so I'd not take their word as gospel.

You just need to do a search for the benefits people have gotten from using essential oils on the forum. I, for one, grew back a bald spot with essential oils so you can't tell me nuffin against 'em:

Dec 2003--smooth bald spot:

Jan 2004--a little soft fuzz:

April 2004--spot filled in completely and not like Rogaine does where the texture is so fine and doesn't feel normal. This hair felt like my hair:

Sometime 2006 (previously bald spot section has hair the same length as the rest of the hair--pic to the right). I took these pics for a different reason, not to track the bald spot's progress, but you can see that EOs worked for me:

ETA: And unlike products with minoxidil (eg Rogaine) I didn't have to continue using essential oils to keep the hair I grew. And my hair stayed.

Please be sure to read up on essential oils you are considering buying because some aren't safe if you have certain health conditions or are pregnant. Talk to your doctor when in doubt, and don't use them neat; always use a few drops in a carrier oil.

Which oils were you using Nonie?

And thanks for the link hair4rmheaven! Good info to have!

I used the same recipe Hair4romheaven was using/linked to in post #3 above. I didn't read the article she posted so I don't know what directions they give...but I share my story and how I used it, as well as all the things I was learning about natural hair regrowth in this thread. (When I first read about this blend, the suggestion was to massage it for a few minutes then wrap a warm towel for a while and then shampoo it off; I instead would just massage and baggy for the night. I didn't shampoo it off daily either, but I would apply it nightly.)

 once again the proof that natural stuff works :yep: There's a number of great books on how to incorporate essential oils into your daily routine:

The secrets of spas by catherine bardey

naturally healthy skin by stephanie tourles

the illustrated encylopedia of eesential oils by julia lawless

this is just a few to get you started pic them up used on amazon.con if you like.

How to properly dilute eo's in carrier oil:

20-60 drops for 3.5 ozs oil ( 100ml)
7-25 drops for 1 oz oil (25ml)
3-5 drops for 1 tsp oil(5ml)

Those disclaimers are in place because they have to be. The FDA and pharma companies they look after have made it so that any food or natural product cannot claim to cure/heal anything. According to the FDA only drugs can do this. Non compliant companies, and those doing good business from selling great natural products that produce results risk closure if they actually promote the benefits of natural herbs and foods. There's a lot of things the FDA and other official bodies promote to the masses that are totally untrue and hazardous to human health, there's a lot of info on the net and in books about this.

EOs really helped stimulate growth for me, I still scalp massage with them.

I love my EO. When I was using growth aids I use to mix them together which would give me that extra tingle. Now I mix them in my DCs and they work great for stretching. I apply the DC as if I'm doing a touch-up with an application brush. This ensures full coverage and the benefit of the EO to work on my scalp.

Can I mix peppermint oil with JBCO and apply it daily, and not wash it out?

Do I have to wash it out? My edges need work.

Its thick so daily IDK see if your edges holds the oils if so you may not need it daily. Im working on my edges so sometimes i may rinse it a little with water as i wash my face so i dont clog my pores

Most stuff that approved by the FDA are made from synthetic materials ( man made ) and are generally not good for you and have adverse affects. Natural products are just that NATURAL.

What oil would you recommend? And how often?

I don't know much about EOs or growth aides.

Thank you so much!

Good carrier oils are jojoba, sweet almond, grapeseed.. there are more... (these are the most often mentioned that I can remember). I mix my EOs with jojoba personally, and when I first started using them I massaged my scalp daily, but I was cowashing often at the time.

See how your scalp feels and (co)wash/rinse as needed I'd say.
