Your hair holds heat

I went to my stylist yesterday for a touch-up and she said this as she was pressing a few areas of my head. I kinda sat there perplexed after she said that. Does anyone know what this means?

You said she was pressing a few areas of your head... maybe she felt that your head was warm and she said "Your hair holds heat" to mean that your hair keeps your head warm.

She means that heat can really make your hair look good she just may have to use more heat than on regular people. And watch out for her cause I translate that into I can use a lot of heat on you. My mom used to say that during my presses.

Confirmed just called she said that my sisters hair can hold heat cause it is thick and she has to get the comb hot and take through the hair slowly.

My hair hold heat. Any heat I put to my hair its going to stay warm for a minute or two after I put the heat the that section. That one of the main reasons I don't like to use a lot of heat.

for most people, once you take the heat appliance off of their hair, the hair immediately cools off. for those of us whose hair holds heat, it takes longer for the hair to cool off and for the style to set. after getting roller sets, i have to sit for a few minutes before i take the rollers out. if i don't, all of my curls will fall.

That's one of the reasons why I'm looking for a new stylist. I dont like how she presses areas of my head after the rollerset. I love big hair and she prefers hair with no body. I also spent about 5 hours in the salon yesterday. My appointment was at 1:30 and I didnt leave until 5:45. I would have been there longer because she wanted to wrap me and place me under the dryer for another 20 minutes. I couldnt take it anymore and I told her I'm meeting my mother at 6 (which I was). Half of my salon time was spent waiting for my turn. She was doing 4 other people's hair!

Ditto! I used to hear this all the time. After a press 'n curl I use to have to wait until my curls "got cold" before styling or they would drop.

Plus, it is also hard to handle a person's hair that holds heat. You can get burned!

Exactly! My mother used to say this all the time when she was pressing my hair. Mainly because she was getting burned.

Awww shooot! I KNOW I'm going natural now. I miss my thick hair! :)

I've been told this by a stylist before also. It just means that right after you run a flat or curling iron or blow dryer over your hair, it becomes and stays really hot for a few seconds longer. I'd noticed this while I was still a heat-junkie. I just wouldn't leave the hot tool on my hair for as long...

My sisters hair is like this. It stays almost the same temp as the heating utensil for a few seconds.

It's hard to handle hair like this because its so easy to get burned.
