You ladies make me feel so guilty when I brush!

I am wearing my hair in a bun most days and I am 11 weeks post relaxer. I always brush my hair back with HHB and tie it down with a scarf, that is the only way I know to keep it down. So many of you say you don't even brush your hair, what other choice do I have? Can anyone recommend the best brush that is the most delicate??

It is not true that brushing your hair is THAT damaging. It just depends on HOW you do it. If you are gentle then it should be fine. As long as you don't experience any breakage continue doing what you're doing. I brush my hair too and it's sooo relaxing:)

Sorry, im one of those 'no brushers'... i haven't brushed my hair in years. i wear my hair in a bun daily and this is my routine every morning.

1 Comb hair with wide tooth comb
2 Style hair as I want my bun to look (ie, bun to the side, bun on top, 2 buns, etc. etc.)
3 Take small tooth comb and only comb the top layer of my hair so that it's flat. I absolutely lose NO HAIRS doing this b/c i don't comb it to the scalp.
4 Put scarf on head and voila, flat hair

I use a brush after I place my hair in a bun, but only for the front, sides, and back. I don't brush down or hard and more importantly , I'm very gentle. I just barely graze my hair with the brush.

or like caramelhonee said, I put a satin scarf on at night and I can avoid the brush altogether in the morning.

I use a very soft boar brush for smoothing out my sides and stray hairs. I think as long as you are not using it exclusively to style your hair you should be fine.

Those brushes with those hard plastic bristles are definitely a no no for me

Girl, I still brush. Ain't no shame in it

But seriously, just like some of the other ladies I use my boar bristle brush (I LOVE this brush...$7 at Sally's

) to smooth my hair down when I style it. It's especially effective when I've used some Smooth n Shine conditioning gel or Profective mega moisturizer

It never reaches my ends or down into the scalp. It's totally just a surface smoother. Works fine for me

No shame in my game I still brush my hair with a boar
bristle brush andd I have not had any problems.

I am a no brusher, and I don't advocate brushing dry hair, but I look at it this way: If you have not had any problem with brushing and if you continue to experience good growth, why are you letting other people's advice interfere with what you think is good for your hair? Do what works for you and your hair. The women who have managed to grow their hair long tend to follow their own routine which they have perfected through trial and error, and they stick to what works for them, no matter what others say.

I wish that I would have found this topic earlier. I just posted the exact same thing

. Looks like I'm heading to sally's for that boar brush.

I guess I'll have to come out of the closet now, lol.

I am finally admitting it: yes, I am *still* an almost daily brusher (unless I'm wearing cornrows). I use it to smooth my edges

...and I even brush my hair when it's wet!

Scandalous! I'm waiting for the haircare police to descend.

Hey Nyambura ...

I still use a brush for my edges. I use it to get my hair smooth, when I airdry too. Not too much harm done ...

I also brush my hair, I brush my hair into my bun when my hair is wet, Im just careful not to brush the length of the hair, I havent had any damage from brushing.

I agree with NAY007. The trick is not over brushing your hair. 100 strokes are not necessary. Boar bristle brushes are great for the hair and are very gentle. If your hair is thick, I would also recommend a porcupine brush which is a mixture of nylon/plastic and boar bristles. I use this type on my hair.

Shooo, I have to brush. Nothing's wrong with it, at least from my experience. Any type of brush agrees with my hair. Just not overbrushing, although when I was younger, I used to do the 100 strokes thing, and that still didn't tear up my hair.
