Yet another BC report!

Greetings ladies!
Been on the forum since 2002, and truly enjoyed it. Been there, done it, been natural, texlaxed, permed, you name it. Longest I got to was MBL in my adventures.

Fast forward: My last perm was 7/14/10. Thought I could transition out of perms with a BKT, but my hair hated it. Went into lace wigs in 2011. By the end of 2011, I couldn't take any more and longed for a symmetrical hairstyle. So I chopped off the straight ends.

Now I am not pro-natural or pro-perm either way, but the crazy thing is after all this time, I am finally just enjoying my hair, the ease of it. The Lord had already given me the hair I always wanted. I need to work on moisture, but here is my new regimen for now:

- Henna monthly for gray.
- Co-wash or wash with clarifying shampoo or diluted shampoo. Follow with Sheamoisture shampoo. Will be incorporating regular (weekly) deep conditioning.
- Just used up Kinky-Curly; currently testing Queen Helene Royal Curl (cheaper) mixed with castor oil
- Nightly: sulfur oil mix under baggie

HairPleezeGrow, well I am on the search for the perfect henna experience. Looking for the truest henna color deposit, because after all, henna is red-based by nature and I want brown.

Application is easy, depending on the henna you get. It's like giving your hair a mud mask. Just add hot (not boiling) water to henna, enough for the consistency of yogurt. If it's old, it has to sit for color release, or have lemon, vinegar, beer or some other terp (definition: an acid based liquid that helps color release but is drying to Afro textured hair).

But mainly if the henna is fresh, it's simple, just put it on and make sure you have thorough coverage on all your hair. Some like to let it dry, some like to keep it moist. Apply, and let sit at least 30-40 minutes generally. Rinse or cowash out, don't shampoo. Henna takes about 48 hours for the color to fully take. Follow with moisturizing conditioner.

There are little variations depending on the supplier, so follow the instructions if provided. My main trick is to make sure my hair is moisturized preapplication, because henna can be drying. Depending on gray, or laziness, my goal is once monthly.

I am moving toward the BAQ, but prefer to shop locally. I was intrigued and ordered my last batch of brown from hennahut.com. Nice coverage (some can be inconsistent) but it came out a little red for my taste. So I am still on the hunt. I have some Avigal Henna from my local beauty supply that I remember did me right last time so we shall see when I try that next. I have been sporting the highlighted effect, but may eventually go black. My scalp I noticed does not like indigo too much though.

I have never ordered from mehndi.com, or gotten Jamila henna, etc., so maybe I am not a true LHCF hennahead . So can't speak to their customer service or product. That seems to be where some of the other folks on the board go though. So in that respect you're better off searching the henna threads. :ohwell:

HTH! HHG! Let me know any other questions!

Thank you for your experience. I will review & research some more on it bc I really do want to try it. I figured its more healthy than dying my hair often.
