Y\'all pray for me . . . .

I'm doing my own relaxer tonight. I'm gonna use the ORS Olive Oil no-lye relaxer. Any words of advice?

Good luck. I haven't used that relaxer but I did my own relaxer last Thursday and I was very happy for the results.

Make sure that you base really well and don't stress too much.

Hi LisaTamika, that is the same relaxer I used for my last relaxer 3 weeks ago. It's a good one. For home relaxing, but sure not to leave it on too long, also basing is putting vaseline (or the protective ointment that comes in the box) on your scalp and around your hairline before beginning the relaxer. This step protects your scalp from harm, burning and chemical damage! Very important step!! Good Luck!

I know I should know this, but what is "basing?"

since you dont know this, i wouldnt advise you to do your own relaxer. im not trying to be rude, but if you relax your hair without basing then

but anyway its greasing and oiling your scalp/hair, before applying the relaxer.. its like prepping your hair for the harsh chemicals, so you're scalp isnt on fire.

Funny thing is, I've always done my own hair and I've always "based" I just didn't know what it was called. I've also been doing my own relaxers for years (except for the last couple of times). It's just that since I joined this site and have been taking extra, extra special care of my hair, I'm a little skeptical. Just me being paranoid . . .

I heard that some ladies at this site relax their hair in halves in order to prevent burning and overprocessing. Like the relax one side of their hair, rinse it out, then do the other side. I know when I was relaxed, that would have probably saved me a whole lot of hair because there is not one single time that I even went close to the "recommended time."

Girl you are not alone, I too have been doing my relaxer for years, but since joining this sight and learning so much more about hair, I am nervously anticipating my next touch up. It's like I want to do it right including all what I have learned. For example I used to relax the front first, but now I know better. I also want to be extra careful not to overlap. I could go on and on. Anyway, dont worry, you'll do good

In a way I'm nervous, but then again I'm excited. When your hair is straight and all flat-ironed out, you can really see the fruits of your labor. I'll let you guys know how everybody is jocking my hair tomorrow
