Sidestepping the "lynch mob"
under the hood?

I'm caring for my niece this summer and braiding her hair all summer. She's an easy child: no tears, no fuss, even when I wash her hair. I was thinking, is it wise to give her a "treatment" and put her under the dryer? I've not tried it but was wondering if she's too young for that?

I've seen a young girl at my hair salon under the dryer getting a deep conditioner, just make sure to put it on warm. Or just put on the plastic cap and let her go play for 30 minutes.

That's just it: I DO WANT her to sit under the hood for 10 minutes. or so.. I guess that may be asking too much of a 3-year-old..

I'll try it on warm and tune her into Disney to see what happens *Laela crossing fingers*

I wouldn't. Why would this be necessary? My daughter just turned 7 & the most I do to her hair (besides daily braiding or twisting) is trim when I think about it--every few months or so. Other than that, I think a kid needs to be a kid. There will be time enough for deep conditioning & all that but young children don't need to be bothered by that.

How long do you leave the conditioner on??? I think I'll just end up doing that. Don't want to traumatize the rug rat...

I have a 3 year old. I use a leave-in conditioner by Just For Me on her hair. She like to sit under the "big" dryer like mommie, so I let her sit for about five minutes with it on low.

I don't think i'd do it to my 3 year old but I have thought about it. Unfortunately, my hooded dryer has a high and cool setting only... would cool have the same benefits as low? and could i use the deep conditioner that we use (ie. mizani moisturfuse, keracare humecto?)
p.s. sorry to take over your post Laela with my own questions.

My baby is 4, I've tried this and she doesn't mind. It's just that she's to short for the dryer. So, now if I want to do a good deep conditioning treatment, I use my heated conditioning cap. Otherwise, I do a plastic cap with a cotton scarf on top and let her go play.

Laela,
I leave it on for about 1 hour and it comes out really soft and silky!

My little girl just turned 3 last month and she loves to get her hair washed. I always do a deep condition with a plastic cap and let her play for about 30 minutes and wash it out. I wanted to do the dryer method, but she's to short and I don't have THAT many books that she can sit on.
I agree that kids should be kids, however, I don't think there is anything with taking care of your childs hair and health at an early age.
