like cancer? Last week, there was this organization looking for people willing to cut their hair to help raise money to fight cancer.

Even though it's for a really good cause, I'm not sure I'd be able to do this.

U know it's a touchy subject.....but YES, if it means putting a smile on someone else's face who had a life changing experience, I would do it, I mean my hair will always grow and maybe they may not be able to grow their hair like I can....I'm not a selfish person and I believe everyone deserves the right to be happy, and if someone ask me to cut my hair for the cancer foundation I would.....Would u like for someone to do it for you? I would, I try to put myself in everyone's shoes and just picture....what if my life was different...so yes I would, I would cry and be upset, but in the long run....I'm making someone start over and making them feel good about themselves......

I feel you. My friend did it for locks of love, but then she cried afterwards. I wouldn't want to do it then turn around and cry KWIM?

I don't think my processed tresses will do anybody any good, so i wouldn't see the point in ME doing that. Writing a check to the cause would be a much more useful contribution IMO.

What she said!! I don't think my hair would do anyone a bit of good.

No, can I just donate some money and wear a t-shirt or pin?

It would have to be a really BIG big fundraiser to even consider it. I think the only way I would cut my hair is if I was getting paid to do it. The money has to be enough for me to pay for 2+ years worth of conditioner and NTM to regrow my hair. Keep in mind I co-wash daily usually 2x a day because I exercise. I usually buy some type of conditioner and hair products bi-weekly.

Nope. If they needed a wig I'd just buy them one. Other than that, I'll give money or volunteer.

Sure. I've cut my hair for less important reasons. If cutting my slightly damaged short hair would do good, then yeah, hand over the scissors.

I know this is bad - but because mine is damaged, I would - it would make me happy and knowing i did it for a good cause. Otherwise I agree with everyone else - I'd donate money or wear a pin.

No, but I would donate some money or volunteer.

There are other ways to support a good cause.

THe only way I would do it is if I was already planning on cutting my hair for myself. Instead of tossing it, donating would be better.

Does giving them one of my wigs count? :look: :lachen:

Honestly, at this point in my hair journey my answer would be no. :nono: I'm enjoying my hair journey so far and just want to see how long my hair will grow. If in the future my hair grows really long and I feel like cutting it off then MAYBE I would consider doing it.

i would never cut my hair for any cause unless I was forced to. the whole "cutting your hair for cancer" reminds me of the race for the cure races. If YOU think it's an important way to show support/race money then go for it. But I get to choose the way in which i will or will not support a cause,I won't let popular opinion (which is often wrong) choose for me.

I would! When I BCd in 05 I gave my hair to wigs 4 kids, i'd cut my hair for other causes too.

I have an Indian friend at work that has BEAUTIFUL thick, wavy, midback length hair. She says she grows her hair out for 4 years (she's at year 3 right now), usually reaches waistlength, cuts it, donates it and starts over. Now if my hair grew like that I would donate it but my processed hair wouldn't do anyone any good.

Exactly, if my hair grew like this, I'd be standing in line. My daughter's best friend, who is just 11, just cut her hair from Hip length to SL for this cause. WHile I thought it was wonderful, I don't think I could do it, but I'd be glad to open my checkbook, run a marathon, sell cookies and candy, whatever. I just can't cut my hair.

(I'm only SL anyway, they couldn't make a mustache out of my hair less a wig :nono:)

No.With no doubt they would chemically process my hair or throw it in the trash. If not it might be made into a poorly made wig. I saw some of the donated hair wigs and they look odd and obvious on the child:nono: Id rather give them cash to get a well fitted lace front.

Honestly NO. I want to make someone else happy but i want to keep me happy too...so i would buy human hair though (expensive one too) if need be or wigs....but cut mine no...( i am not mean i swear)

That is my goal for growing out my hair as you can see in my title! I originally grew it out for personal reasons but once my goal is reached, I thought why not give for a good reason

I personally don't have anybody in my life who has been affected by cancer but someone close to me works at Memorial Sloan and sees cancer patients young and old everyday :nono: .

So if my small sacrifice (on the global scale of things, no matter how much we ***** and complain about our hair it is such a small thing compared to the struggles many face daily just to have clean water, food, survive cancer, etc.), espically for the young girls and women, can bring a smile to their face I am all for it!

I hope more women, espically women of color, will join me!

That sounds like a challenge Black Diamond21!!

I wish they had like a paypal account where you can just donate money. But they have a PDF file form for you to fill out and you send it or fax it. My printer is down but how about sometime this year, we ALL find the time to donate some money. Even if its a little bit.

If you want to donate hair, it has to be at least ten inches long. For those that want to go that route, I'm sure there are plenty African American kids out there that need wigs too.

Let's do it!!! You in?

Donating money (in my opinion) is worthless. I feel like giving time or tangibles are the best forms of giving. If you're going to give money to non profits girls, I urge you to check out charity navigator and other non profit rating sites so that you know how much of your money is going to the programs or to the employee's pockets.

No. I'd skip the middleman of my hair, and just give them some money - since that's the goal of the fundraiser.

:look: And locks of love is not all that it's cracked up to be, at all. For one thing, they do not give wigs to children with cancer, because it's a 'temporary' loss of hair. Only children with alopecia get their wigs, and most of the time, they sell them for a reduced price, and do not give them away. :nono:

hell no. id donate money or better yet, my services faster than my hair. it sounds mean but it is what it is. one, it's MY hair and two, i don't buy the best of products to be hacking off my hair for someone to coat it in chemicals and make wigs out of it.

i know someone who uses locks of love and they give the little girl the wig free and that's beautiful, but i still aint cutting my hair.

Nope. Sorry, can't help you. I'm swallowing too many damn pills, using too many topical treatments, and working too hard to have patience waiting for hair to grow through this transition to then turn around and cut it off for somebody else.

I'll write a check.
