i plan on not washing my hair for 4 weeks. however, i still want to wear my hair straight every day. I know some say it isnt good to flat iron 'dirty hair', but i won't be flat-ironing all of it. I plan to just run over the kinks (i sleep in a ponytail) for like 3 seconds.....do u think this is ok?

thanks

oh, and im not washing my hair because i believe my hair grew best when i never used to wash it until touch-up, this was 2/3 years ago. so im just going to experiment for next touch up.

And your hair's health too. I mean for a month your hair won't be conditioned or moisturized in any way... AND you would be putting heat on it.

Maybe washing every week would be better for your hair.

Sorry, I don't mean to make you feel as if your idea isn't good, but I don't want to lie and I say that I feel that it's the best thing to do.

I appreciate your input, and I understand what you are saying, but i won't stop using my oils/moisturisers etc.....i jus wont wash for 4 weeks. Its just that it seems my hair has gone downhill since i started washing more frequently and taking 'care' of it. Before i started this haircare journey, i used to put heat on my hair everyday and not wash till touch up (4-6 weeks), and my hair appeared to be fine. Then one day, i decided that i preferred short hair, and cut my hair, and since then nothing has been the same. I do agree though that this experiment could have potentially drastic effects on my hair..but i think it may be worth the risk.

controlFreak, I'd be worried about the health of your scalp.

Thanks for replying. :)

Do you think there would be too much build-up? I know this idea sounds totally off-key, but as i said above, i had been washing every 4-6 weeks for years, and it didn't harm my hair in anyway (at least i don't think!).

I was told years ago that putting heat on dirty hair wears away the hair shaft. The dirt and product on your hair adhere to the heated iron and gradually weaken the hair. I've never researched this to see if it's true or not, but do not put heat on my hair even if it's two days since my last wash. I almost always wear my hair in a ponytail and the tension alone tends to weaken the hair near the face and nape. I wouldn't chance it.

yeah, i heard that too, thats y i asked. i guess il b goin back too washing every 3 days.

how about washing every two weeks instead? I know plenty people who have healthy heads of hair and arent frequent washers. I wouldnt recommend going a whole month though..aside from adding heat to dirty hair, it would stink too :(

Hi,
Maybe you could at least do condtioner washes which I have found to be really good also. You could possibly do those every two weeks or 2 1/2. Just a thought.:)

I agree with what some of the other ladies have suggested. I would say that if you don't want to wash weekly, every 2 weeks would be okay.

No, No

As all of the others have said. The name of game is MOISTURE, Conditioning the hair puts moisture in, Direct heat takes the moisture out.Leading to dry and breaking hair

Just make you do more of the MOISTURE thing more often and you should be OK

I think you should try co-washing, that will give you the moisture that you need and also it cleanses your hair. If anything, before putting heat on your hair at least rinse it with water if you don't want to wash, rinse it with H20 and try to get as much dirt off before you apply heat.:)

No, please don't go that long without washing. You wouldn't not shower for 6 weeks, would you? The skin on your scalp is like the skin on your body. Plus the hair traps odor and bacteria.

I don't see a problem waiting 4 weeks to wash your hair. My hair grew and was healthy when I used to wait that long BUT my hair would be really dry. So if you decide to do it, make sure you moisturize.

If you just flat iron your ends, you might as well flat iron all your hair. Just applying that flat iron to your ends will make them more prone to breakage and maybe thin out more than the rest of your hair. If you decide to use heat, you need to wash more often. Or, if you want to use heat, maybe use it once a week or every two weeks.

HTH!

And to add to that, I don't think the real problem would be the lack of washing, I think the major problem would be applying heat to dirty hair. I personally wouldn't do this to my hair and I only use heat on clean hair. (But that's just me).

All I can foresee is the hair getting really damaged.:ohwell:

I used to shampoo and condition my hair every 2 weeks, and it was fine, so this is possible.
