is it ok to workout the day before a relaxer? i'm trying to stick to working out 3 days a week but i don't want to ruin my scalp/hair. any thoughts?

I dont think you should do anything like that and scratching and washing your hair within 24 hours of getting the relaxer.
But im not sure, i would just be to scared to

I was wondering the same thing...I want to work out b4 to get my roots to be as different from the rest of my hair as possible, to prevent overlapping.

I don't think its totally manditory to NOT workout, but it would just depend on your particular hair schedule and how you treat your hair when you do. If you can work out and not disturb your scalp before, during, or after that, knowing that you will be getting a relaxer the next day, then sure, go for it.

I make a habit to no workout at the very least 12 hours of getting my relaxer done because I sweat buckets in the gym. I also rinse my hair afterwards.

My advice: Don't wreck your workout schedule for your hair if you can help it. If you don't mess with your scalp (or know you won't) workout as usual. If you're like me and know you will, skip a day and catch it up by doing a back to back workout.

I wouldn't. I have done this and been burned. I sweat a lot, so I guess that means my pores are opened? Anyway, I take a 2-3 day break before I relax.

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't do it girl!

Even if you sweat a little its enough to open up the scalp and you will burn. Trust me, first hand knowledge speaking here! My stylist even put me under the dryer on cool hoping that would help. My scalp was FIYAH after only 5 mins. If you must workout wait a day or two and then go.

thanks baglady and simplycee. i'll take your word for it. i'm going to wait 2 days.

I've worked out right before going to the salon for a relaxer and have never had a problem. I never burn, though, so if you're prone to it you may not want to take the risk.

Hey LS...how you doin girl?!

ITA w/ this. I've worked out just before going to the salon too, and I never had a problem. :::shrug::: I guess this varies from person to person like everything else. But like LS said, I don't burn easily so if you're prone to burn, you probably would have a problem with the pores being open.

This is what happened to me recently. My friend and I were going to the gym hardcore ( 5days a week @ 2hrs a day) and my hair officially tooka beating. FYI do not sit in the sauna...it burns your hair and makes it hard....literally...anywhoo..I noticed that the steam room would be moisturizing for my hair and starting adding conditioner and evoo to my hair prior to stepping in and leaving with a hat on and rinsing out when I got home. This helped alot. My hair was thinning though do to the sweat/salt on my scalp. I am still trying to gain back some thickness from that.

Years ago I went to the salon after playing a full soccer game. I was in tears once that relaxer was in my hair! Granted, I only waited a couple of hours after working out, but I think it's probably best to give it at least a 2 day break. I'm prone to burning though:(
