Ladies, for those of you who work out with relax hair, how often are you washing the sweat out of your hair. I figure I'll wear a lot of wash and go styles. I have 40 lbs to lose and would like to lose more then half of that before the end of the year. With that said, starting Monday I'm working out 5 days a week and wasn't sure how to maintain my hair during this new life change. Any and all suggestion will be helpful. I wasn't sure if this thread should have been posted in the health and fitness or Hair thread?

i work out 4-5 times a week.

I wrap my hair the night before, place a silk wrap on my head, get a baseball cap and put it on and head to the gym. When im done sweating...(like a beast) i take off the hat and let my hair dry in the silk wrap..i usually get a dry fresh one after i get out the shower....once my hair dries i comb it down and head out the door...my hair is still straight and i do the same thing the next day. I must say that i work out usually after work and classes so my hair has time to dry.....give your hair adequate time to dry or else POOFINESS everyhere....

i wash my hair once a week or once every 2 weeks now.

lately i've been cowashing and braiding in about four braids letting it dry over night. Now that its getting colder, I'm contemplating working out in two to four bantu knots or pin curls. Before, I used to do one ponytail and pin the ends under. Just wrap it tight when I come home. I'll let you know what I'll try this week.

I work out 6 days a week, but I wear protective styles everyday for work.

I usually co wash every morning after my AM workouts or if I work out after work, then I co wash the following morning (unless I don't have time).

Thanks ladies, My only problem is I work out in the am...so I don't have enough time for my hair to dry....It's not that big of deal when my hair has just been relaxed it' when I'm trying to stretch it, I go 20 weeks between relaxers.

I work out about that much as well (4-5 days) a week, and I wash only once a week, mainly because I don't want to deal with detangling. I normally place my hair in a high ponytail and wrap a scarf around the sides. While it's wet (from sweating), I keep that scarf on until my hair fully dries. This keeps my hair smooth. At night, I'll put a roller or two on the end of my ponytail and let it down the next day. My hair is still bouncy. I think part of the reason is because I normally do rollersets.

As far as wash and dry styles, I tried doing that throughout the summer and while my ends stayed strong, I had tangles and knots throughout my hair like you wouldn't believe. I would pull my hair into a high ponytail, let it airdry and then wear a phony ponytail. Now, if do that again, I will sit under a hood dryer first and then wear the pony. There is something about the airdrying that leaves with too many tangles. Not worth it to me.

I work out 4/5 times a week and keep my hair in ponytail. After exercising, I apply Mango Butter and comb it out from the roots. I choose not to do anything to my hair so that I can continue exercising. I guess by the time my hair reaches it's goal, my body should be where I hoped it would be

Regarding the a.m. workouts - my method works in the morning too. You may have to take your scarf off fora little while to speed the drying, but you can still do it. I'll shower with my scarf on and take it off while I drive to work. My hair is still in the ponytail as I drive to work. Once I get to work, it's pretty dry, and I can style as usual.

i workout and just wear my hair in 6 big flat twist that I do and tuck my ends. I flat twist the sides two on each side towards my ears with a part down the middle of my haead then connect the twist then tuck them. Its hard to explain. I also just do two french brainds with a part down the middle of my head ad tuck my ends.

I have also upped my workouts recently to 4-5 times a week. I am about 3 months post now, so I either wear protective styles or two french braids (that I wear under my wigs). I only wash once a week, but may cowash anywhere from 1-3 times a week depending on how my hair feels. Whenever I have a fresh perm I usually just put my hair in a ponytail that doesn't touch my clothes or skin and it's okay until I get home.

I am about to start working out again.

My plan is to pincurl my hair and keep a sweatband on. Once I'm done exercising I plan to use a cotton ball soaked with ORS Herbal Cleanse to clean any sweat from my scalp and to prevent the sweat from drying my hair out. I'll do that after every exercise session. I'm going to continue to wash my hair my normal once a week.

I wash mine one to two times a week when not in some type of protective style. I have short hair- 12 weeks post right now. I sweat alot but usually i can curl mine and it'll go for three days in some form or fashion lol even with working out. In the am, the new growth is usually wet after a workout, but I leave my hair out and usually by the time I'm heading out the door for internship it's dry.

I do this as well:yep: I wash my hair once a week, but all of the days that I work out (5 days) I do co rinses. I braid my hair in two braids (while still running shower water through my hair...helps from getting tangles), and I get under the dryer for about an hour. I would like to just airdry, but if I don't do the dryer first, my hair would still be wet in the morning.

I work out 6 days a week and I usually just rinse my hair in the shower everyday after my workouts. I shampoo maybe twice a week. I don’t worry about trying to do cute styles or anything so for the most part I just bun it up all week. Plus I noticed that working out makes my new growth a lot more manageable.

This is the dilemma I had when I first started working out. I wanted to be cute and fit and nothing seemed to work. At first I was condition washing/washing and just wearing my hair in a bun. But that got boring fast, and I had to find another alternative. So I wash my hair once a week and rollerset it. When I go to the gym, I just put my hair in a high pony and put a headband around my head. I try to dab the sweat while I'm working out just so it won't be too soaked. By the time I get home, my edges are about 80-85% dry, so I'll usually just take off the headband to speed up the process, and when I think it's dry, apply my moisturizer lightly around my edges and wrap my hair. When I comb it down, it looks exactly like I've never even been to the gym. It works for me and I'm happy b/c now I don't have an excuse not to work out :yep:.

Does anyone workout regularly and maintain a press (I'm natural)? My head sweats alot and once I hit the gym, my hair is a poofy mess! TIA
