I noticed alot of you ladies have beauticians. I was just wondering if you only visit them during relaxer times ? Also, would using Keraphix every 2 weeks be too often for 4a/4b type ?

TIA

I only see my hairdresser when I need a relaxer and I use Keraphix once a week with no problems.

Right now, I usually see my stylist every 2 weeks. I actually enjoy going to get my hair done since I really trust the girl that I see.

I only go at relaxer or trim days. BEFORE LHCF, I was going every every two weeks faithfully.

I see my beautician only on relaxer days. I may see her if I have a little extra money and I am wanting a blow out of my roots. Ive never used Keraphix before. I am an Emergencee user and I use that every 4-6 weeks. HTH

I don't see a stylist and I self-relax. I wash every 3 days and I now use Keraphix every 2-3 weeks without any problems.

i usually see my stylist for relaxers, but if i need a check up on my layers, ends look crazy, or going out then i will pay her a visit. keraphix is a mild protien so 2 a month should be cool.

Co-signing on this. This is what I do. I use Emergencee followed by a deep moisturizer. Even though I am not a big Nexxus user, I have found that this is the best deep protein conditioner for my hair. I normally use Cathy Howse's Reconstructor recipe (you can do a search for it) with Mane N Tail, but I recently bought her conditioner, so I will be trying that soon and maybe mixing it with AO GBP and seeing how it works. If you are looking for a mild protein conditioner, there are other alternatives that might be cheaper and that some people feel work well. Mane N Tail (works very well for me) and AO GBP are two that people on this board seem to like a lot.

I think part of the point of this board is to become independent of stylists, if you want to. I have started going to the stylists a lot less and my hair has really improved as a result. I now only go for a relaxer (I am nervous about putting chemicals on my hair by myself, but that's just me. :look:) or for a special occassion. As some people on this board say, no one can love your hair like you can!

Most of the time I only go to my stylist for touch-ups, but sometimes I go for styles or to get braids. I use Keraphix once a week, so once every 2 weeks should be fine.

I only go when I need relaxers, but that is only because of budget issues. When I was younger and my parents were footing the bill, I went every 2 weeks and my hair was in the best condition ever. It depends on who your beautician is. At that time, I would get my hair washed, deep conditioned, and roller set and there was no problem.

Thanks everyone for replying! Hopefully, I will be where most of you ladies are in due time with all of the excellent info and advice that I have come across here !

TIA

I only visit the hairdresser to get my hair styled (i.e. press & curl or some other style). Since I self-relax and wear protective styles 99% of the time, I wind up only visiting my hairdresser once every 3-4 months or when I have a special event to go to. IMO, it's a waste of money to get my hair done every 2 weeks like most of the people I know do. It's too much heat, too expensive, and doesn't last that long.

I use to go to my stylist once a week and she used to give me a touch up every 5 week with a trim. No wonder I retained about 8-9 inches in 5 years. She was touching up way too soon and she was just cutting away my new growth. When I found this board over a year ago I have been able to retain a lot of inches and my hair is healthier than it's ever been. I only go every 3-4 mos when I need a touch up.

At one point, I was going every week. Now that I know how to at least wash and semi style (but most importantly, how to care for) my own hair, I usually go every 3-4 weeks. I always go if I need a relaxer or a trim, but sometimes I go just to be rollerset, too, because I can't do my own sets.

I can't allow myself to go my hairstylist ever again, I have it set in my mind to do my own hair since I have the advice and support of LHCF.
