I am looking for a pretty spiral curled/wavy textured wig and these pictures on these online wig companies’ websites are so deceiving. They will show a pic of some Indian-like curly hair and send u a kinky curly afro wig. I can’t stand that because it’s nothing like the photo. I want a wig like sis in the pic. Anybody know where I can get a lace wig like this?

For buying tips, this hair looks like it would be marketed as being virgin Indian curly, and not have a processed curl. The type of curl process can really affect how natural those curls end up looking.

The thing with curly wigs is that they rarely, if ever, arrive looking like the promo photo. They arrive one way out of the box, and you tend to have to work them- i.e. give them a co-wash/ wash and go/ brush out the curls/ fluff them a lot/ flatten the roots, to get them looking like the pic. Another tip: because of the thin ends that these curly wigs tend to have, I would go longer than you think you need, that way you can have full ends that look healthy, and not stringy.

It seems like all these curly/wavy wigs just all look the same: they look like Chilli’s (from TLC) hair .. like this...Every girls wig/weave looks like Chilli’s hair or those big bouncy/wavy curls like this

To me, those styles just scream “wig” or “weave” because literally all these girls have the same styles. Not knocking it at all though but that’s not the look I want for myself. I think I’m too picky because I want my wig to really look like it’s my hair.

@LegsLegsLegs Do you have a pic of your wig you are trying to work with? I would start by washing the hair- brushing through with conditioner, rinse. Then going light with product (maybe a mousse), mostly finger comb and scrunch, and see how the curls set after airdrying. If the curls weren't curly enough, I would probably try to steam-set them myself lol before I bought another wig.

It's difficult because the curls in raw hair are rarely consistent through the length, let alone from one bundle to the next. So a certain amount of prediction goes into how curls will look after 'the work'. Even on processed curly hair. If you do buy something else, opting for made to order vs stock, you can be specific about certain requests. You can send or ask for pics from vendor, so you can see if the curl will work for you before purchasing. I know exactly what you mean about the oversaturation of that curltype/ bodywave look (insert nodding head emoji).

I bought this wig from ManeRegalia.com. Mane Regalia is Black owned in Dallas, TX but I believe she ships all over.
The look you are going for would work with this hair... you'd probably just have to cut it bc its long (this is after I cut 1.5-2 inches off)

You can keep the length but cut into layers! This can be tricky with curly hair because you need to cut on the "C" of individual spirals, not just straight across.

Keeping the hair all one length weighs down the curls and you won't get that springy look.

Wow thank u!!! I did end up keeping the wig but still getting some of my money back so I’ll take your advice to set the curls because I hate this hair. I paid a pretty penny for another wig with raw Indian hair so I’ll be trying that one first. I’ll definitely use your advice next time I’m looking into buying another wig though because girl, them pictures be VERY deceiving. Thanx again

Y’all I have done a lottttt of trial and errors within a week of trying to get my wig installed. Mainly having all types of problems with my bald cap method and aligning my wig on my hairline because my hairline is way high then way low in some sections. I was so happy when I finally got my wig installed but not happy that the lace was not seamless, so I tried to cover the lace with baby hairs sooo many times and girl stocking caps are a No No for all my thick hair because I see the stocking cap slipping back underneath the lace. Wig caps only. And I REALLY need to learn how to bleach knots. Ericka J’s adhesive is the best hands down! Here’s a pic of my mess.

Bleaching knots seems intimidating but it's not so bad. Use plastic tools. From the moment you start mixing, work fast. I use one scoop or less of bleach powder and add a small amount of 30 vol developer and a little colour corrector and/ a tiny drop of adore dye in Egg Plant- (the purple is attempting to prevent brassiness from the bleach). I mix until everything is combined and smooth with a consistency of toothpaste.

With a plastic knife and a light touch, working from the back of the lace piece towards the hairline, spread the bleach over the knots, making sure that the tops of the knots get covered. This is the difficult part to judge because the bleach expands over time and you can so easily overdo it. When this happens, I've corrected it with a little dye on a eyebrow brush, applying carefully to the roots.

I tend to watch it and wash when I think it is ready. Depending on the hair and lace and environment, some knots bleach easier than others. I was bleaching a closure the other day, and while a lot of YTers say leave for such and such amount of time, this closure bleached in 15mins with me holding it the whole time.

After washing it out, and the the purple shampoo, I recently like to add toning as this really does correct any brassiness.

@LegsLegsLegs I'm about to braid down my hair for this closure wig I made. You make me want to try Ericka J's glue (also eventually want yo try the Bol.d H.old Liqui.d Gold). For me that base prep is more tedious than the wig prep.

Everything I learned about wearing wigs, I learned from the old school ladies of BHM. I usually wrap some coban self-adhesive bandage around my hairline (on top of the scarf or cap base). This is what I doctor with foundation to match my skin. It doesn't usually slip, but it can so I'm going to try placing a little glue in front of my hairline to prevent it. This closure lace is so thin, I can see everything underneath so we'll see how this goes.

Thanks for the tips!!! I’m going to try them next time I do a self install. I miss BHM , I use to be on there alllll the time. The bandage thing, does that replace the bald cap method? I do agree the prep under the wig is very tedious & if u mess that up, it shows underneath the lace. And yes Ericka J’s adhesive works really well!!! The only other adhesive I’ve tried is Bold Hold Active. Ericka J’s dries really fast and holds reeaaalllyyyyyy well. I pulled my wig HARD and it wouldn’t budge at all. Let me know how your install goes!

I glued the bandage near my hairline but the lace is so thin that it was showing (someone had to be real close to notice, but still I could see it lol). I repositioned it today, but the way my head is shaped, it started to slip back so I removed it. Ooh just had an idea to line this wig (excluding closure section) with some silk. We'll see if I can be bothered. I added a pic; why I'm inclined to wear this wig sans bandage.

I'm late to this thread but checking out Mane Regalia now. Thanks for posting the link. I may pick up another wig but I hate the idea of spending so much without an idea of the fit. Do you know anything about the wig sizes? I'm pretty sure the beauty supply is only carrying small sizes but I don't have anything to use as a reference as the other wigs I've purchased have been custom where they measured my scalp.

I got a medium of the "Curls Please" unit (I have tiny locs under my wig and it fits comfortably). I just use Bobby pins, no glue for me.

The owner is really good about responding if you send her a msg.

Also I believe they have a huge Black Friday sale.
