I went for my touch up last night, when called I asked who I'd have and they said Bea, but if it got really busy I'd be with Annie.

I love Bea, but Annie for some reason claims me as her customer when I arrived she told the reception, "Oh, I 'll take her I'm free" I really did'nt want to hurt her feelings and say I prefer you NOT do me. So I went on.

What a nightmare, she took like 1/2 hour to base, then she did the back of my hair, seems like eternity she had a timer set, it went off and she was still another 5 minutes or so, back there.. Then she said, I'll wash this out and then do the top

I said can't you just hurry and do it all at the same time, she said "Oh, Sure", started doing the front but I began burning in back so she had to rinse it anyway. I so I'm at the shampoo bowl back rinsed and she applying relaxer to the front

I hate the way this woman does relaxers. Has anyone ever had a two part relaxer????

Then she charged me $10 for a deep conditioner.

Why did'nt I speak up??

Sorry to hear about your two part relaxer Mindymouse. I've never had one done like that. BUT I have however, had a two part relaxer that started on the right side of my head. She eventually finished on the left side. By the time she reached the left side, my right side felt like it was ready to ignite. The right side was straighter, because I had to ask her to hurry up on the left because the right side was on fire. I never went back to her. I think she brought some of sides out too. Well...why can't you just specifically request Bea next time you call to set your appointment.

Compassion

I'm sorry that you had to go through this. I've never had a two-part relaxer done. My advice for you is to find a stylist (hopefully, it's Bea) who works really fast so that you get it all done in the allotted time. If you ever have a negative/doubtfully feeling about someone or the situtaion, BACK OUT!

To answer your question: 'why didn't I speak up??', well, I think you felt like a victim in the salon. You knew what was best, but you gave her the control. Happens all the time. Standing your ground and calling the shots is verrryy important when you're trusting others to do your hair

, otherwise, you leave the salon feeling cheated/betrayed/pissed

Didn't mean to lecture

. I guess I could've just said that I completely understand...

I have to agree w/Compassion. I would specify next time and if they ask why I would tell them. I've had a two part relaxer,it didn't burn, she did a good job. Just took to long.

I am. She can get her feelings hurt, It makes no sense for me to pay $75 and be miserable. I just PRay that I don't get any breakage to set me back.

I was so excited to, cause I had a lot of growth this time.

You do understand, this is exactly how I felt...

And really mad at myself for not speaking up. Well, no more and if I see any breakage, I'm calling there and get a free wash and cond.

God, I'm angry

Mindymouse, I have never heard of a two-part re-touch. Is that okay to do? I could really feel your pain on this one! I've been though so many negative experiences at the salon, that I learned how to do my own hair. I used to feel so jipped when I pay my money for something that wasn't worth it. I hope you remember that anger the next time you go to the salon. I've read several of your posts and I see how you are trying to take care of your hair and do all the right things. You had a set-back but keep us the good work!

mindy....i dont know if u would call what i had a 2 part relaxer because she was almost through....all except for the little part right at the very front hairline...she was trying to smooth it but my crown was burning something fierce(my fault for scratching the crap out of it right before i sat in the chair)
spank.gif
anyhow she rinsed all the crown and back area and finished smoothing that little part in the front and then rinsed it all......so far no bad effects...i think u will be fine!!

Mindy:

I'm so sorry your salon mishap! This is pre precisely cisely why I don't patronize salons. Since finding this hair care board, even at my worst my hair has never been in excellent condition.

I often wonder why I don't speak up when I should either...just like I just posted in the Aveda products thread. When something doesn't seem normal, sometimes some of us don't say anything and I think a lot has to do with us thinking that the person is a professional so they know what they are doing. I've learned the hard way that this isn't the case.

That's so true..

Thanks guys and I have learned a lesson, I am going to be firm next time. I worked hard for my healthy hair, in fact as soon as she saw me she was like "WOW, your hair has grown, alot" "WOW".

I swear I wonder sometime if they aren't just trying to purposely sabatoge you cause they did'nt have anything to do with you growth.

We're all learning from our mistakes. Go with your instinct next time. I won't see anyone besides Todd when I go in for a touchup every 8 weeks. I quit going on Saturday mornings because the washbowl assistant combed my hair a little too roughly before Todd rollerset me. On slower weekdays, there's less rush.

Mindy, can you tell the receptionist when you make an appointment that you onlu want Bea? I know it's hard when you don't want to hurt the other girl's feelings, but in the long run you don't want to hurt your own feelings when your hair turns out a mess. Say something like, I would really prefer Bea because she gets me out fast and I have to make it quick today. OR mention thatBea's styles are most like the ones you do at home.
I feel you, though. I have a braider who always wants to braid me even though the other braider is gentler on my my hair.

Mindy, i'm so sorry this happened to you. Next time specify when you make your appt. who you want to do your hair. Its your money and your have the right to choose. Bless your heart for not wanting to hurt her feelings, but your hair is important to you and you deserve to be comfortable with whoever does your hair.

I've heard of 2 part relaxers from people on the General Relaxed Hair Care board, but those people do it because they do their own relaxers and haven't been able to apply it quick enough. In fact I'm planning to do this with my next relaxer. Do the front the first day, then the back the next day (or two). It's just something I wanna try since it takes me sooo long to apply it all over and I wanna get a better timing. Better than a strand test. Anyway, at the salon -- hair stylists shouldn't have to do that. They should ALL be trained and experienced enough to be able to do your whole head in the normal time(IMO). So yes, you have reason to be concerned. Better luck next time. Get Bea! And yes by all means speak up. I used to be like that. Never spoke up because I thought the person was a professional and maybe there was something she knew that I didn't. Well I do my own hair now period. I know my hair better than anyone.
