Why is there such a hype over stand up dryers? Is there a difference between those and Table Top? I just bought a table top and want to know.

Songbird, do a search on the Pibbs dryers, there are alot of threads about them and why people like them so much. I have a dryer as you have described but i am looking into buying a Pibbs myself. From my understanding they dry your hair really quickly.

Thanks for that. Hopefully we get more responses

its annoying to have to find the right table. i found the right table but its a nesting table from ikea i have no back support when i sit underneath it so its horribly uncomfortable. i cant wait to get my pibs so then i can sit on the couch and chill while i dry my hair

I don't have a stand up dryer but I have read in other threads how ladies like the convenience and freedom. Tabletop dryers need to be on some type of surface and you're rather limited in where you can dry your hair. But with stand up, rollabout dryers, you can roll it wherever you need it (ie: deep conditioning while on the pc).

Hello Songbirdb!!!
Well, I'm not sure what brand of tabletop dryer you have, but I have a tabletop (they are PERFECT FOR TRAVEL) Conair 1875 and my standup Pibbs 514 just arrived today and I can't wait to use it.
  • With the Conair 1875 Hard Bonnet I had long drying times and I could not fit my entire head with rollers underneath (specifically the back row of rollers). Also I tend to be a bit clumsy and I have destroyed table top dryers by accidentally knocking them on the floor. I also like the wide range height adjustment feature of a stand up, but some table tops can also be adjusted to a certain extent. With my table top I also needed phone books and pillows and as vanesart also mentioned the right table or counter.
The overall reason is shorter drying time !!! And from what I've been seeing with the other LHCF members that have already used there standups (not only Pibbs, but Hot tools and other brands)it is much faster.

I don't subscribe to the notion of hype about my Pibbs, but all I know is the Gold and Hot/tabletop dryers don't cut it for me. With the tabletop, I can spend 4+ hours under it and my hair still won't be dry in some places and in the crown area the hair will be dry to a crisp. This problem went away when I got my Pibbs. It takes less time and my hair dries evenly now. The extra time I spend under the dryer now is because I saturate my hair with water and dry at low temperatures. The Pibbs does not dry out my hair like the gold and hot did. So I guess different strokes for different folks.

It's more convient IMO. I'm pretty tall and trying to find a tabletop to accomondate my dryer so that it reaches my head was hard. Plus, when I did find a table top, I had to basically become a contortionist to get my hair dry which gave me neck and back pain. I still have the one my mom gave me for when I do hair (braids, dreads) and have to do house calls, but I bought a Pibbs and love it! I can watch TV, read, surf the web and be comfortable:yep:. Plus, it does dry a lot faster than the portable ones do...

I just bought the Ion table top dryer from Sally's. I only bought it because it was Ionic and I heard good things about that. I'm not big on rollersets yet, but this dryer has a deep dome and its tiltable and I found a good table for it. I'm actually under it right now (since I use a laptop anyway, and I have one of those foldaway personal tables. So I guess if the only things about the stand up is that it has faster drying time and you have more options on where to dry, I guess I'm good. Thats ladies because I was really unsure and I thought I made a bad investment. I don't wanna spend all that money on a pibs, but maybe when I get my own place, then I will but for now, the tabletop will do (i hope)
