Why Pink Lotion is a Devil?

i think the ingre. are bad. practically every black girl has used it and thought the hair was long because of it when really it was lng because it was left alone. i tried to use it right before finding this board and it made my hair wet. its supposed to be new and improved but i doubt it.

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Mineral Oil, Lanolin, Beeswax, Petrolatum Sodium Benzoate, Sorbitan Oleate, Ethylhexyl Dimethyl PABA, Methylparaben, Propylparabean, Imidazolidine Urea, Fragrance, Red 33

......I think the ingredients are a big factor. They coat the hair if used daily.

I have fine & dry hair. I've tried it and it weighed my hair dow.
My cousin on the other loves the stuff, her hair is thick, and not nearly as dry as mine, to put it simply her hair texture was more akin to the indian in our family.

I think it's the mineral oil. Mineral oil is a no-no on this board because it prevents moisture from getting into the hair shaft.

Glad to see that you are ok DP.:yep:

If it works for you and your hair benefits from it then it may not be the "devil." However, I used it for a while and (1) I really didn't see any major benefits; (2) there are other products with better ingredients (even with the mineral oil being in some of them); (3) It makes the hair wet which isn't good for relaxed flatironed hair styles (for bunning it may be great); (4) It has a weird smell compared to my "upgrade" LOL!

I used this for quite a long while and it never really did anything to my hair except weigh it down and make it far too limp. Yet at the time, I was under the impression it was better than using grease. Little did I know it had the same effect, just different texture.

Not exactly the greatest product in my opinion, but who knows, maybe it makes someone's hair divine! I suppose it really depends on your hair.

That products in AWFUL. Just look at those first few ingredients - Mineral Oil, Lanolin, Beeswax, Petrolatum.

Yuck.

I know I'm not the only one who had the big bottle with the pump! I was applying it multiple times a day, and the more I applied, the drier my hair got:ohwell: my hairdresser even mentioned how dry my hair was. so, of course, I'm like how is that possible with as much pink oil I'm applying, she was like that's exactly why it's so dry, because of the pink oil.

she was like, don't you notice how often you're having to apply it! it was doing the complete opposite of what it was supposed to be doing. everyone's hair is different; but, for me, it was the devil.

I've actually never used it but since learning about mineral oil and petrolatum I continue to avoid it like the plague. My hair is VERY picky about getting its moisture. I comb through and detangle in the shower and I can always tell when I need to add more moisture. My hair will not allow me to lapse.

I used this back in the day and it was just gross. It made my hair wet, limp, greasy, and smelly. I can't believe I used it for so long and I firmly believe it did nothing for my hair but make it look a mess and coat it .

I never liked it :nono:.
It never made my hair feel moisturised, it just 'coated' it with an almost waxy feeling and weighed my hair down.
It doesn't absorb into the hair very well.

I havn't used it in YEARS.

If you wanna make Pink Lotion at home for a fraction of the cost, do this:

1)Get a big tub of vaseline
2)Add a tablespoon of distilled water (it has to be distilled, this is high quality stuff, here!)
3)Dump in a few cups of assorted parabens
4)Mix in a random, nauseating fragrance
5)Sprinkle in some coloring to make it look cute

There you have it, your own Pink Lotion! :yep:

I have never used it and everyone I know who did use it had short hair that was stiff with the stuff. I never understood what they were trying to accomplish.

Well, even before LHCF, i used to always tell this one lady on my job that I hate that stuff (she always uses this mess, and i smell it when she does-although the smell actually doesn't bother me). Yes, i used to use it when i was younger, but it leaves like a dried feeling, and i just don't like the way that it makes my hair feels after using it. now looking at this thread, i see that the ingredients are also bad. So, I knew a lil something, and that one is to me just not good for your hair.

i say do what works for you. you are supposed to use it with scurl to seal maybe once a week. its not a moisturizer its to seal in the moisture from scurl. i didn't know the ingridents were so bad....i mean I still use the new one sometimes.

i use to love this stuff as a little girl, it was the only thing that tamed my wild thick wavvy hair.

a lot of stuff has bad ingred. in it, i think the only way to avoid this is to get a mixing bowl and get creative

Yep, what she said. Did my hair the EXACT same way. The more I applied the dryer it got. Couldn't figure that out for the life of me....

:lachen::lachen:Yep, I had one. I never understood why my hair was always dry because I was always slapping that stuff in my hair. And don' even think about trying to roll/wrap your hair after you put it in. :nono: My hair would be so greasy and limp, and bone dry the next day.

OMGosh! Hilarious!!!! :lachen::lachen:But really DP, back in the day I can't remember there being too many options for our hair except for Pink lotion or Bergamont. Now that we can get better quality ingredients for our hair it makes me wonder why this stuff is still on the shelf. I used it, I liked the color cause it was pink. But my hair didn't benefit. It only weighed it down and made it greasy.

Me and pink lotion NEVER got along. It would leave my hair with huge flakes plus it caused me to have a lot of build up. After reading the ingredients, I understand why.

are some of you guys referring to motions oil moisturizer? cuz i know their own is pink but there are others like lusters pink oil.

i use motions and it works for my hair but the others are pretty nasty, thick and gooky.

hmm, maybe i should look at other options ppl talk about on this board. i only use motions on my wet hair along with s-curl and a glycerine/water spray.

What do you ladies think about the B&B Oil Moisturizer Hair Lotion w/ Castro Oil and Aloe?

I couldn't rmember why I stopped buying pink oil, until I got some for my daughter's hair. That stuff left her hair hard and dry and it came to me instantly and I tossed it!
