Hi ladies,
I haven't been following my regime very long, though I think I am doing much better than I was before I found this board three months ago. Despite the vitamins, Surge, carrots, and lack of heat I am noticing my hair has thinned considerably in the last five months. Any suggestions on retaining thickness and can you please be specific? Pics below were taken on the same day a week ago.

Thanks in advance.

i dont know what to tell you except to take B5 vitamins. thats what i take. it takes a while for you to notice the results of vitamins though because they need to work thru your system. so it could take up to 3 months for you to notice.

there was a thread like this a few weeks ago with some products that people suggested, if i can find it ill bump it for you

good luck

relaxed ladies please dont hate me....

but are you relaxed? my hair was ALWAYS thin when i relaxed, no matter what i did. that might not be the problem though, its just one of the first things i think of, because i went through it for so long.

whats your regimen , taking any vitamins? protiens?

Are you seeing the shedding? It looks like you have lots of layers. I know you said lack of heat. Does that mean that you are air drying? Air drying will help. Sorry for the questions.

it just look like you have a lot of layers, I wouldn't call your hair thin though.

Was your hair weighed down that day?

No worries. I am relaxed and have been for years but lately it's gotten thinner. When I removed my weave after five months (in November) it was sooo thick. And now this! But no, I haven't noticed any shedding.

- I wash with Surge Power Wash
- Use Infusium 3-minute treatment conditioner
- Surge Plus 14 twice a day
- Rollerset or leave wet and scrunch
- Vitamins include MegaWoman GNC vitamin, HairNourish GNC vitamin, MegaGreen Tea pills
- Carrots 16oz daily

Edited to add:
Shea butter on ends every night. I stole that one from Irresistible

Nope it always looks like that. Isn't it a shame. I see ladies with such volume and thickness. My hair just lays there!

Do you remember what possible "new" thing you did or used when you started to see the thinning? are you on birth control? any kind? if so they rob you of all B vitamins, i wouldnt hurt you at all to take a extra B complex vitamin on top or your mulitple...what about the Surge? does it make your hair dry? or hard? lawd im just guessing now...also it wouldnt hurt to take protien either...when you rollerset , do you use anything that makes your hair feel hard? or crunchy? girl im just guessing at stuff. but i do know taking B complex will help as well as protien....but, it could be the relaxer too. i know thats hard to hear though.

Hey LorraineG,

*eyeballing the pics* It looks like you have highlighted sections that are shorter. Is it possible that after you highlighted the outter portions, that there was breakage where the hair was streaked? This happened to my sister.

I've order Nutrine garlic shampoo and conditioner to combat shedding.

It's time for a GNC run. I'll pick up some vitamin B. That's the only thing I can think of. I'm not on b. control and the Surge doesn't make it hard, nor crunchy -- just a little fluffy.

I recently highlighted my bangs but the highlights you see in the back are over a year old! I can't get rid of them. How did the Nutrine work and where did you find it?

It might not be the way you are caring for your hair...have u considered some of these possible causes:

Heredity
Age
Poor Diet/Nutrition
Certain medications
Increased Vitamin A Intake

Do you think any of those could cause it?

Your hair looks like it is layered. Once it grows to one length it will look fuller. I love your hair wet, so pretty.

Thank you for the encouragement!

Yeah I have the same problem Lorraine. It could be that that is just the way you were born. I know that my mother had really thin hair so therefore I have thin hair too. It got even thinner when I relaxed.

I suppose vitamins could help( I am trying that to thicken up my hair), but I suspect genetics just might have the last word on this issue.

Do you get your hair relaxed bone straight? I don't get my hair relaxed bone straight, and my hair is very thick and has a lot of it's natural wave pattern.

2 things made my hair look thin: my layers and a no lye relaxer. Now that I switched to lye,not bone straight, i can seehow thicker it looks in comparison with the rest. I'm growing out my layers, so it'll look fuller.

But your hair isn't layered, right? I don't think you "naturally" have thin hair, I think it's broken where you have color. The darkest strands are the longest and in the straightened pic it looks like the "layered" areas are fuzzy, which indicates some damage or breakage and need for trimming.

Your hair seems fuller when you come out of a weave b/c it's reverted and out of control. I'm sure that when you relaxed and it hit the color, it broke and looks thinner now b/c of the differing lengths of hair you have.

I agree with those that stated that it's the layers making it appear "thin". I don't think it's thin at all, just layered.

Why no lye? and which one do you use?

For pretend thickness, on wash days I use Nexxus Headress leave in with a few drops of castor oil. It plumps those strands right up. Lasts for about 4 days.

also...it does not look thin...it loooks layered. I can show u a thin pic(of my own) miss lady!

Try this test. I used to go to Janet Jackson's hair stylist (I just can't afford her and she cancels a lot of her appointments for her star clients) and she showed me this. Take a section of your hair and hold between your fingers starting at your scalp and move your fingers to your ends. For me it helped me feel where my hair was breaking. This often gives your ends the appearance that they are breaking and that you have thin hair.

Your hair looks thick everywhere except the very ends. Go with the layered look which is what I did and am doing (my hair was overprocessed for about eight months before I put a stop to it) and I did dustings just to keep it neat looking. I plan to trim off about 1-2" at the end of the summer (argh) but the longer my healthy new growth gets the more it seems to emphasize the damaged parts.

Hope this helps!

PS
I did an Aphogee treatment followed with a moisturizer to help save as much of the damaged hair as possible. I've noticed a lot less breakage.

While I do not have any suggestions, LG....I think your hair looks fine to me. I was really expecting to see some see-through ends.....
