Why is a hard protein NOT recommended after a relaxer? I have read a few post stating that they wait a while after a relaxer to do a hard protein or they do the protein before a relaxer.

Why?

I use a hard protein the week before my relaxer and a week after my relaxer...It helps me with breakage and i incorporate protein conditioners almost every week

Some hardcore protein treatments have very low pH's which after a relaxer, can affect the results of the relaxer. Personally, I always do a pretty strong treatment 2 weeks afterwards. I use Dudleys DRC. I also do a protein mid step during the relaxer process and deep condition with a product that gives me a little protein and moisture afterwards. My favorite for that purpose is Aveda DR.

Gym, I knew that you would reply. Thank you!

How could it affect the relaxer results? Would it cause the relaxer not to "take"? If so, if someone was looking for texlax type results, could they leave the relaxer in the complete time and then use a hard core protein to achieve those results??? :scratchch

Technically yes but not everyone will experience that. I think it just depends on how your hair reacts. If you are looking for a more texlaxed result, it might be easier to just drop your processing time. I don't know now predictable the results would be with trying to protein your way out of it.

:lachen: LOL @ "Protein my way out of it"!

Thanks again! I think at my next relaxer I will do a hard protein immediately after my relaxer and see what happens.

Immediately after a relaxer???????? I don't know..My nexxus emergencee specifies NOT to use during a relaxer process...becareful!

I was thinking of Joico K-Pak or Nexxus Emergencee. I usually do a Aphogee 2 minute after rinsing out a relaxer but before the neutralizing.

Maybe I will not use the Emergencee as Gisseller mentioned that it is not recommended.

The kpak will work fine. The problem with proteins like Aphogee 2 step and emergencee is that they use more acidic mediums. That could cause reversion or some type of irritation.

I don't know about afterwards but I know it's not good to use immediately before. I used that ORS Mayo 2 days before my relaxer and it didn't take very well :nono:. I guess I got texlaxed :ohwell:
