Why do yall use amla powder mix with henna?

Just a quick question, what is the purpose for using amla? I know henna give your hair strenght and gloss just don't understand why amla? Thanks,

When I used henna without the amla, my hair came out hard. The amla makes my hair soft, I love it as a conditioner.

I think the amla along with some oils helps with the processing Henna for hair site claims amla adds gloss and curl to black hair, not sure but I know the results are beautiful; no tangles, strength, easy shampoo out afterward.
