my recently married coworker (who is white and in her mid 20's) had beautiful shoulder length 2 a/b curls. over the weekend she cut it to a non-descript, soccer mom, over-40's do. it's cute, but ages her at least 15 years. her husband is livid! i've noticed that a lot of young white women cut their hair shortly after getting married. any idea WHY they do this? (i don't know her well enough to ask) have any of you made drastic hair decisions after getting married?

Are you talking about that "frummpy, matronly, over-done mother look"? I love seeing women who are mothers and married that still dress with a little sex appeal and style. I don't think just because you are a mother and moarried that you have to pull out that "soccer-mom" look as you put it.

I saw and Oprah show about sex appeal and this woman had the "soccer-mom" look with her pumpkin sweater. She got a make-over and learned how to pole dance too. Oprah featured the author of the book " S Factor: Strip Workouts For Every Woman".

But to answer your question, after getting married I did NOT make any drastic hair decision.

i haven't gotten married, but maybe they do it because they think it is lower maintenance, or that it makes them look more mature.

that's exactly what i'm talking about! what's funny about my coworker is that she doesn't have kids yet. i agree that she probably was going for a more mature look. its definitely mature. i hope her husband gets over it!

LOL I have watched many make over shows and they always cut off peoples hair and say "You Know Long Hair Really Ages You." to the older women and Long hair makes you look too Young to the younger women.I don't agree I think it has more to do with hairstyle than hair length.

I think you can have a more mature and low maintinence look without the "soccer mom" look.

And, for the poster that mentioned long hair ... I hate when these make-over shows automatically cuts off someones long hair, especially if it's pretty and healthy!!!

Yes, I've noticed this! What's that all about?! They usually try and say its more cool or hip, but if you look at most famous style icons they are sporting long hair or extensions! It must go back to the ol' SHS syndrome.
