why do my ends bent like this??

Hey! I am just recovering from these L'shaped splits. I'm not entirely sure why they bend that way, but here are 3 changes that I've made and that I've had the most progress with:

- Use a cleansing conditioner or very mild sulfate shampoo instead of a sulfate shampoo. I see a decrease in splits overall now that I use a gentle cleanser. Even some sulfate shampoos were too harsh, so if in doubt, go far the cleansing conditioner.
- Use detangling spray liberally before you comb, and comb in small sections & take your time. Make sure your comb is seamless, too.
- Make sure your buns aren't wound too tight (ex: don't twist your hair too tightly into a donut bun) and make sure the ends are tucked in straight, not bent. Most days I don't even tuck the ends in at all. As long as they're not constantly rubbing on my clothes, they're good.

Hope that helps :-)

I noticed mine used to look that way when I flat ironed. Guess it was too hot. Not sure. But it's def damaged.

The front side of my hair used to bend like that. It's damage/split. I had to keep cutting them over time because for me, it was years of damage. You can't cut a small amount over time or all at the same time.

So I have to cut them all? I only noticed them just now because I straightened my hair but when it's curly they don't seem as bad. I feel like I would have to cut 4 inches to get rid of them all.

Using the comb chase method to flat iron helped me. Any bent ends that remained after that I would cut. I did mine gradually over a few months so it wasn't that bad. Now I wear my hair straight more often and I don't have this issue.

My shed hairs look exactly like this except more split ends and some breakage too. Based on what I read here, the breaks are from the L splits. There's no other explanation for them. I

My hair has been damaged since the start of my HHJ. My splits have been mostly caused by mechanical damage. Usually when I stretch past 14 weeks it just doesn't work out for me. I should have cut a long time ago but I just couldn't do it until now. Im gonna do it today or one day this week.

I LOVE this HHJ!!

Cut them. You can cut over time....cut what you grow. Trim them a little every month.

But know that your hair will be the same length for about a year and those ends are gonna stunt your progress until they are all gone.

Baby them as much as possible. Extra moisture. Hide them away. Deep condition. Stop using heat.

That's one good thing about curly hair; it can hide damage. But you'll be much happier after a trim. It will make detangling and styling easier.
