Of our hair stylist that is?

I've read many threads here about how to say "XXX" or what to do if "XXX". I'm not judging by any means b/c I am just as guilty...its almost a sense of panic of HOW you are going to say whatever it is to the stylist. The strange thing for me is that I am QUICK to say whatever to whomever....whenever I like. I'm somewhat considered a b!tch (lol side joke to Oprah show)....anyway how did this whole phenomena come about. The stylist is there to service US but yet we are worried/stressing about how to speak to them. You never think oh...I just eat this steak even though I wanted chicken...just to avoid the waiter. I think part of it is assuming they have this vast knowledge of hair care....sorta puts them on a pedestal....

I'm rambling ...its just something I've been thinking about for awhile.

we are afraid because we let stylist get away with too much then it becomes a cycle
and rather than work it out many just decide to do their own hair

It seems as if it is so hard to find someone who can do everything - it is almost as if we have to sacrifice one thing for another ex. - she can do a great relaxer but I have to wait four hours or he can style my hair wonderfully but he is scissor happy. It's as if finding an all around great stylist is like finding the Holy Grail. We put up with so much with hopes that they will get better or you can change them (like a bad boyfriend ;-)

I think its a matter of finding a great stylist that works for YOU. A stylist who knows how to deal with YOUR hair and is patient with your request. A good stylist is hard to find. It starts with having a open gate of communication.

Well I'm starting to see why so many of you do your own hair...can't trust anyone!!! Unfortunately I haven't mastered the art of self relaxing, and I cant cut either...so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed.

Some do put stylists on a pedestal, just like some put doctors on a pedestal and are afraid to confront them or say no. Many of the ladies give a lot of power away to stylists and some of these stylists do take advantage, as we have read on this board.

I think its because we find someone we like and we don't want to let them go. Its a hassle to find someone new in many cases. Plus we know that the next time we come in... if the stylist is a vindictive wench she can ruin your hair or ... you may really need to get your hair done and she may not see you.

Finding someone who does exactly what you want and is very good at what they do... unfortunately... is quite rare.
