Who uses Tropic Isle Raw Unrefined Black Castor Oil?

Do you know why it is as dark as it is? I am talking about the one supposed to be granny made from the islands that is thick and dark. I am awaiting the arrival of mine and if you are or have used it in the past, please tell me exactly how you applied it, how often, and how well it worked. Does it have the ingredients on the bottle, cause I am curious as to what I am putting on my head and hair. I do not believe it is just straight castor oil. How long did you or a have you been using this product and has your hair thickened considerably as a result, become more moisturized and helped you to retain length and strength. Apparently castor oil can strenthen hair 9x original. Bonjour

I've been using it for about a month now and my hair loves it. After I wash and condition my hair which is twice a week, I apply it after I dry my hair. Then I pour about a quarter size in my palm and to my hair. I let it airdry and my hair comes out soft.

I will say that it has made it thicker and moist. It made my hair grow, too. I only apply it after every shampoo.

I hope this works for you as well as for me. Let me know how it went.
 
Mahalia, why don't you think it's straight castor?

I believe it's dark because it's unrefined. The refining process usually involves bleaching.
 
I think that because pure coconut in the other islands that is not refined, but made from the coconuts that grow in the yard is not black or dark brown, but a soft yellow or creamy color. On Sam's site for example he speaks of how it is prepared in a traditional way only done by certain women. I buy unrefined coconut oil when I am in the markets , made and sold by local women. This black castor oil is a special type. I am sure. I believe that it is cooked with herbs etc. Bonjour.
 
Sorry: A lot of places sell coconut oil and claim it is the pure natural stuff and it has no or little odor and what little it has smells like lard. The real stuff smells like coconuts. As to the Castor Oil......To complete the post. Actually, I was told in the Islands that Jamaica, Haiti, and another Island are known to make the thick black castor oil but they do not make it in the islands where I visited. And that the oils are not dark unless they have herbs etc. added to the oils. Generally, it (Castor) is at most amber colored without additions.Bonjour
 
Hey, i use the unrefined castor oil from Haiti. It's black in color. The ladies who say they use it AFTER their cowash, don't you worry about the smell? It doesn't smell too good, right? actually i just went to get some from the bathroom but i can't smell it b/c i have a stuffy nose haha. But anyway I think it's unrefined since it's from the islands, Haiti, and they usually don't get into the whole refining thing. I've had the oil here for a good while actually, but I hadn't used it in months.

I used it continuously in the past during this period of time and my mom was saying how it made my hair grow and whatnot. I'd do overnight pre-poos with it every week, and sometimes before blowdrying, i'd mix it with some grease for my hair and scalp, but nowadays, I don't even use grease.

How has it helped the rest of you? i may incorporate it into my regimen again who knows...

black castor oil isnt coconut oil though, not even from coconut tree. Its found in Caribbean islands as well as the African continent. My greatgrandmother(Nigerian) used to use it for body aches and stuff.
 
Carlita: why is it black in color? I do not think it is dye or food colorant. I think it must be cooked with something in it? Could you find out, because it also smells stronger than ordinary real good castor oil> Bonjour
 
I got mine from Sams24-7. It comes in a very dark bottle, but the color is that of dark amber. I work a quater size drop into wet hair and pull it back
 
So they just call it black castor oil then, and not necessarily because it is "truly black" in color. Okay. That helps. I had heard varying stories about black castor oil, that it was very thick, very odorous, and very very dark colored, that it was black castor oil. My order has arrived. I tried some of Natures Bounty? castor oil that I got from T.O. and it was amber colored and they called it Black Castor oil, but it was not the same as Sam's as far as I know. How does your black castor oil from Sam's smell, and even more important, do you think it is doing more for your hair and growth than the regular light colored castor oil? Thanks. Bonjour
 
Carlita? What do you mean by the castor oil from Haiti is black? black as in black black or could you be really specific? This is where I get confused. Help a girl out. Bonjour

It has a smoky, burnt odor. I think its doing two things better than the light kind. 1. Even though it is thick it, spreads well and I can use less of the dark one. It seals in the moisture without the obvious greasy feeling of the light kind. 2. The dark castor oil is not as sticky as the light kind. This means I can comb through my hair after applying the dark version and my hair doesn't attract lint and the like.
 
Now you know I can do without the stickiness and the oiliness. This sounds just great. I often thought, if I could have the moisturizing of castor oil and get away from the greasiness and stickiness I would be a happy camper. Did you find that your hair became progressively thicker in the strands as well as more dense, and that it triggered growth in areas that were slow to grow? Was the smell offensive to the point that you would not want to wear it out publicly without some cover up scent? Bonjour

YES, my hair is stronger because the castor oil is helping the strands maintain their thickness. The black castor oil does an outstanding job at sealing in the moisture from my daily wash. In turn, my hair does not dry out and maintains its elasticity. Better elasticity means that it is less likely to break or do midshaft splits as I go about my day. So far my one thin patch is still thin. But I haven't tried massaging the oil into the scalp. The scent seems to dissapate as the day wears on. I don't use all that much and no one has complained yet.
 
Thank you Darkflame: I should be even more specific. Did your become fuller and bushier as a whole, and did it seem like you had way more hair than before? To me, there is no such thing as too thick, so being as I have fine strands, I will go for 5 times the thickness if possible. I love love love thick hair. Gives you bigger hair buns and french rolls etc. <meaning less work to get a great style. So, is your hair thickening up the more you use it and how long do you go between shampoos? Bonjour

Oh, sorry ...no.. it is not getting thicker over all. I rinse with water everyday . I have given up the whole shampoo and conditioner thing for good.
 
okay. But with rinsing, do you then reapply some everynite, or how often do you apply. I would imagine that with just rinsing some of the effects would remain. Bonjour
