Think Slim
and why?

I know that there have been threads about Affirm, but I cannot find what I'm looking for.

I'm considering switching from Creme of Nature to either Affirm or Phyto, but I'd like to hear from my trusty cohorts. What makes Affirm so wonderful.

TIA,
Webby

Hey!
I cant answer which is better. But I have used Affirm for about 6 months now and I really like it. It is very gentle and I use the regular. My hair has not experience any burning or dryness as a result of this relaxer. I havent experienced any breakage and I am extremely comfortable using this brand.

Thank you Chaya

I thought all of my buddies had left me out to dry ...sniff, sniff...

Your response was suffice. I just wanted to hear from affirm users, wanna know what they like about it.

I recently switched to affirm after using revlon realistic to texturize. For me there was a dramatic difference in my hair including less damage/breakage , the whole application process with affirm was like having a deep conditioning treatment, my hair did not suffer at all and I did not get any underprocessing which I would usually get when using the revlon. I also believe that the ph of affirm relaxers are lower than CON/Revlon. I really think that it is worth the investment especially for the health of your hair.

Hey Webby
I've been using affirm since last year (2/04). This is the best relaxer i've ever used. MY hair feels perfect afterwards (not over, or underprocessed... but just rite). I have not experienced any brittleness, dryness, excessive shedding, etc.

Btw, i use affirm sensitive no-lye <--- i'm a no-lye girl... always have been.

Thank you all for your responses. I think that I'll stop being so loyal to Creme of Nature and try Affirm.

BTW, CH...I knew that you couldn't make the NYC meet over the weekend, but I heard so many wonderful things about you. :)

Hey Everyone....
Just wanted to add my 2 cents.
I've used Affirm for years. I've used others too, but I've never used this PhytoRelaxer. I do love Affirm. I've used both FiberGuard, Sensitive Scalp, MoisturePlus and Dry Itchy Scalp formulas. I've never had a bad experience with any Affirm.

If you decide to use it, don't skip any steps.
PROTECTO first - all over your hair. This helps in conditioning hair while relaxing.
RELAX - Stick to the timing. It does get your hair silky straight.
RECONSTRUCTOR - Immediately after you rinse out. Helps to quickly bring hair back to proper PH.
NEUTRALIZE - Of course, we all know what happens when you don't.
------
I usually follow this with one wash hydrating shampoo and a deep conditioner. Then it's Kera Care all the way.

I like the Affirm relaxer, when my ex stylist used it I could go longer without a touch up. I recently relaxed my hair in Dec. after stretching my relaxer for 9 months and used Affirm mild sen scalp and my hair loved it. So I am sticking with Affirm, this is the first time in my relaxed life that I have been satisfied with my relaxer.

Hi there Webby,

I've been using Affirm for over 1 year, since about November 2003. It is the BEST relaxer for me. I almost considered trying Phyto, but after hearing about CandiceC's horror story last week, I changed my mind. Affirm works very well for me, their whole system does. My hair does not experience lifelessness, it has lots of shine. I recently switched to Affirm Fiberguard, which I learned about through Cathy Howse. I've been using that for about 4 relaxers. My vote goes to Affirm.

Question though: Why are are you considering a switch?

I use Affirm and so far my hair is pretty straight compared to other box perms I have used in the past. I remember when I would get a relaxer, it would look fresh until I washed it. Then it will look like I haven't used much of anything at all. I use Affirm mild and I'm a 4a/b.

@LoriLOCX - I'll be getting my done in the salon, so no step-skipping for me, but thank you so much for the heads up.

@ Rabia and everyone else...LOL...I think I will definitely give Affirm a try when I get my touchup, but please don't be surprised if I don't come back here with a "What's the difference between Affirm and Affirm Fibergaurd?"

I haven't tried Affirm Regular but I do use Affirm Fiberguard no-lye and just recently did a corrective on a section of my hair using Fiberguard lye. The no-lye is wonderful and silky feeling never goes away. It's been one year since my last relaxer and when I run my hands over the section done with the Fiberguard no-lye it is sooooo soft and silky (even after just air-drying!). Now on to the Fiberguard lye ... like I said, I did a corrective relaxer on a small section of my hair and I did it about 6 weeks ago. I relaxed the new growth and then spread the lye over the underprocessed sections for the last 5 minutes. OH MY GOODNESS ... my hair is soooo much easier to comb through (the section not done with the Affirm no-lye that was underprocessed - frizzy, dry, and brittle). The comb just glides right through the entire section and it feels sooooo smooth and soft and I haven't experienced any breaking in that section (I keep it braided so I will be able to monitor it). I love the lye even better! I will be doing my entire crown with the lye and correcting the sections that were underprocessed. What I'm saying is that Affirm is an excellent relaxer whether lye or no-lye. I am very pleased with it and the only way I would switch is if they ever stop making it.

*Mo goes to seek out this CandiceC's horror story about the beloved Phyto that has made her hair so soft and lovely...hmmmmmmmm*
LOL.

@ webby! *waving*

The fiberguard is for color treated hair....

I use Affirm Fiberguard mild (lye) and love it. I have used it for YEARS. First, as a teen, I had Hawaiin Silky, and Revlon. Then, I got Switched to Affirm. It made a huge difference...I kept more hair, better quality relaxing, WAY LESS BURNING.

In college, I was cheap and broke, so would just go to any stylist and 'get my hair done" often times it was with Motions...which wasn't terrible, but the change made a diffence in my hair (shedding).

When I was able to find a steady stylist here in Atlanta, my hair dropped down my back ( I also think this has something to do with Georgia's humidity, compared to Alaska's dry air).

I am temped to try Phyto, but I have had such good Affirm results...probably won't :nono: .

Hope you like it webby, I agree with Curlybun, the whole process is like one deep conditioner...

I've been using Affirm lye since April 2004 and I've been loving it ever since. The first thing I noticed was that my hair appeared much more healthier, stronger, etc. It's great!

I've been using Affirm Normal no lye since May 2003.I love it and have no plans to switch to anything else.I had been using MOtions before.Somehow my individual hair strands just feel better with Affirm.

I've been using Affirm since 2002 and I love it! It's the best relaxer I've used. It doesn't burn and it lasts a long time! There have been times when I was 3 or 4 weeks post-relaxer and my hair felt like I just got a touch up. It's definitely a high quality relaxer.

Hi ladies. Stick with Affirm! I strayed and tried to use Phyto, but my hair wasn't having it. I'll be correcting the underprocessing soon with my beloved Affirm Lye. I like my hair silky straight and this is the relaxer that does that for me.

Mona, first...thanks for explaining Fibergaurd

Now...I'm confused  I thought that you LOVED Phyto.

Which version are you using and what is your hair type? I've been using the Fiberguard and my hair seems more like it is texturized. Also has anybody noticed that on the Sheldeez site, they seem to no longer carry Affirm. This may be old information, but I've been away for a minute.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *fingers to lips*

Mo whispers in Webby's ear..."I really do, but I can't promote/big it up anymore...please see the thread 'I'm sorry PhytoPusha'...it will clear up the confusion"

**Mo tosses cape over shoulder and tip-toes back out the thread.**

I'm glad you made this post Webby, because I use creme of nature (mild) too, but am thinking about switching. The creme of nature doesn't seem to be straightening as well anymore. I have thick 4a/b hair. Which one should I use, Affirm mild conditioning creme relaxer, or the Affirm Fiberguard mild?
