I was in Rite Aid looking at hair dye a came across a product called Sun-in. You spray it in your hair and it lightens up in the sun or w/ a blowdryer. Has anyone triedsomething like this? Did it work??
I tried it long ago. My advice: Don't do it! --I got very broken, damaged and fragile hair. Oh, it was cute--for a little while, but in the end totally NOT worth it!

Dang...thought I was the only one acting a fool trying this mess out. I bought it back in 8th grade (I'm 30 now) and broke my hair totally off! My mom went off on me because she TOLD my *** it was not for black folks to use. All of the little white girls I use to hang with so I thought I could do what they were doing...boy was I wrong. Don't buy that mess. I can't believe they brought that mess back out.
Re: Who has ever tried a Sun-in Highlighting produ
I tried it a LONG time ago (about 18 years ago). I really liked it then. It made my hair a pretty aburn. That's when my hair was really short (about 3" to 4" long).

I used it a long, long time ago...I don't think it damaged my hair, but it turned it a reddish color. I believe it is for blonde or light brown hair, so don't expect blonde highlites if you have dark hair. I can't remember if I liked it, I dont think the results were too dramatic, considering all the things I have done to my hair since then.

I have used it with no problems. But I dont lighten it extremely, just a shade or two. Thats weird???

I see that you have a different hair type that the others that experienced breakage. I guess it depends on your hair type...not for your typical 4A/B hair.
Re: Who has ever tried a Sun-in Highlighting produ
I think that the 8th grade was the year for Sun-in. Me and all of my friends tried it and we all had different results, but none were negative. My naturally dark brown hair color did get some golden blond highlights. The key is to use it on dry hair, don't use too much, and to use the sun instead of a hair drier.

I think that stuff is what started me on my downward spiral with the hair! I was already relaxed and I tried that it made my hair dry and it only lightened a little. I then of course went onto harsher hair lightening techniques.
I tried it in high school and it made my hair an orange-red kind of color. I only put it on the front, I didn't have to much breakage but it did change the texture of my hair. It made it a little rougher. I liked it until I got excited and put too much on.

DON'T DO IT!
You made me recall a funny story, that of course was not funny at the time.
But I was sporting this blonde weave (oh the shame of it) and I remember using Sun-in to try and match the shade of the weave.
Well, girrrrrrrrllll....I used it every day for like a week, right? Then I decided to touch up my bangs( they were the only part of my real hair that was exposed) and chile don't you know my blonde bangs fell right into the tub when I washed out the perm???
Lawd...had I not been wearing a weave to begin with, which is what I eventually used to cover the front (FOR MONTHS).
Now granted, I shouldn't have retouched so soon. But the moral of this story is, that stuff ain't noooooo good for black, chemically treated hair. OH-KAAAAYYYYY?
EDITED AFTER READING THE PREVIOUS POSTS: Ok, DONT USE IT IF YOU ARE A 4 WITH RELAXED HAIR!!!!!!!

kamilla: since i live in jersey, i had to trek over to the city and pick it up at the first salon that i happened upon that sold aveda products; but you can do a search online and come across it...ok, i just did a search. drugsttore.com has the color shampoo... black malva 4 dark hair, camomile for blondes and highlights, clove 4 brown and hhoney tones and madderroot for reds and warm tones...
i think i'm gonna try the camomile for some subtle highlights... hope that helps

I totally agree.
I somewhat of the same experience with Sun In (but it was the gel) , It lightened my hair quite a bit.
But when it was time for touch up,my hair came out everywhere that it had lightened. I was
