Who Flat Irons with oil?

I have just recently started using oil when I flat iron. I have used both Kemi Oyl and Wild Growth Oil. The Kemi oyl is a bit lighter to me, so I use it the most and my hair still has movement.
HTH:)

I still use a silicone serum, but after I put my leave-ins on, I put Kemi Oyl on before the silicone serum. I love it and it had been good for me. I know people say not to use oil, but I really do find that the Kemi Oyl has been beneficial.

I used to flat iron with coconut oil on my hair, but also a heat protector spray, as I doubt the oil protected my hair at all.
My hair got pretty fried.
It was swishy and shiny after flat ironing though  (The damage was hidden when I flat ironed ;) )

I think most heat protectants have silicones in as that's what protects the hair from the heat (I think).
I heard that there was one serum (Aveda maybe?) that had a water soluble silicone though...

I agree with the other ladies. I worry that oil will just fry my hair so I use a silicone heat protectant instead.

Yikes, flat ironing with oil with damage your hair  . Last night I did a honey and evoo rinse and I thought I was gonna develop hand in hair disease. My hair was positively delicious!!! Say it ain't so...

Flat ironing my hair with just oil or grease and no heat protectant destroyed my hair.

Oil helps the heat literally cook your hair.

Camellia, one of these i would love to see your hair straightened out! its sooo long!

I'm itching to flat iron, just to see how long it really is, but I need to buy a decent iron. I keep reading reviews and can't make up my mind.:perplexed

I use curl wax. I don' t know if it counts as an oil but it is extremely heavy and greasy. But it works. I flat iron weekly and my hair is not fried......yet.

I flat iron with WGO. Works great if I don't overdo the oil, which is easy to do with big hair. But I didn't fry it, kept it well lubricated shiny, and seemed to help it keep it's moisture. But one caveat: I do usually use cones right after washing, so there were cones in my hair when I sat to flat iron.

ITA with the WGO. I always use this to airdry, but last night I decided to also use this on sections of my hair before flat ironing, then I lightly sprayed on my silicone based BTZ Turn Up the Heat spray which is so yummy. :lick: Needless to say, my hair feels so good, using the WGO made a difference. I have heard that it's bad to use oil on the hair for flat ironing, but I like to think the WGO is in a class all by itself, and it's more like a deep conditioning hot oil treatment. On the WGO website they actually recommend using it with heat for this purpose. Just some food for thought. :scratchch

OT @ Camellia, Congrats on reaching hipbone length. That is wonderful! It's so pretty and sooooo loooonnng!:)

I just found the part of the WGO site that recommends using it when heat styling:

Can it be used as a hot oil?
Yes! Also consider applying heat after oiling the hair. Excellent results (ex. lastingly conditioned hair all the way to the ends) have been obtained. Methods include under the dryer, blow drying and pressing.
