One Of the reasons I go To the dominican salons is because of how they scrub my scalp.I almost purrr when They take their finger nails and scrub all the sweat, dirt and flakes off my scalp. My prone To flaky scalp hardly flakes anymore and my hair is growing like crazy.Im not sure the exact benefits but it feels and looks great..

I've never done it, but it seems like it would function pretty much the same way as a scalp massage. They're stimulating your scalp and increasing blood flow to the area by scrubbing like that. Supposedly that causes increased hair growth.

I used to love this till I went natural. Scrubbing me to death by Shampoo leaves my hair dry LOL my DD's love it though.

My dominican stylist used to tell me that she had a chinese client who groaned in ecstasy when she washed the client's hair, lol "Oh Ana, yes! sooo gooodd!!" lol

I love it! When I went earlier this week I was struggling not to groan out loud. It just the perfect amount of abrasion and smoothing. Since I found a stylist that never flat irons and rarely blow dries, I'm in there regularly, like a junkie in a crack house.

I get paranoid about all the other clients they do it to. And sometimes it can get abrasive so I wonder if that can harm the follicles in the long run as I hear you're suppose to use the pads of your fingers and not your nails. It's nice that you have someone reliable to do it to you though.

I think it feels good. My only issue is that all that scrubbing really matts the hair especially when wet. And then they try to rollerset using a rat tail comb and no leaveins to provide any slip which makes me cringe. I've tried a bunch of dominican salons and they all do this.

But if I ignore any potential damage I'm getting then yes it feels so good.

I do this at home myself. I don't think I've ever used the pads of my fingers, I need to scrub with my nails to get my scalp clean.

I do agree about your hair getting tangled, which is why I use a cleansing creme. They encourage a deep con and a good leave in where ever I go in nyc.Last month I did spend a few weeks in Richmond VA and btwn the scrubbing, treatments and the pin curls..my hair grew a few inches in that short time!!

That's it! I swear I'm never going to a Dominican salon ever LOL. :lachen::lachen: I used to really wanna go but this thread has officially sealed it and scared me off. First I hear they use super high heat to make sure each individual hair strand is straight  :hair:, then fine tooth combs to detangle :nono:, now fingernails to scrub the scalp?! :perplexed Aren't y'all scalps sore and stuff lol?

I do it to myself at home :( but DAMN when I went to the Ouidad salon and had the Bay Leaf treatment OMG...you get two scalp massages with it. I was soo surprised that I didn't start drooling cause that ish felt so good.

Otherwise I massage my scalp when I wash it, or I make SO dig his fingers into my scalp whenever.

That's the one thing I miss about the salon, that feel of someone else washing my hair.

eta: I have never let anyone use their nails on my scalp. Euw, gross.

when I was relaxed I liked it. but now that I'm natural they turn my hair into 1 big knot. so I can't let them wash it anymore

I've never been to a Dominican salon, but i do miss THAT part about salon service is that nice scrub...but thats when i was relaxed.

Its hard to do it now that i'm natural, but i do still attempt to scrub my scalp with my nails...finger pads don't cut it for me:nono: I'll find i still have buildup with just my finger pads.
