I've decided not to proceed with the corrective relaxer for the underproceesed areas of my hair, in fear of causing irrepairable damage or even hair loss. Those of you who are in the same predictment what are you planning to do? What products are you using to help with detangling? Are you wearing any protective styles to prevent manipulation/breakage of the differing textures?

And no, i'm not transitioining, but i will wait 6 months before self-relaxing on the newgrowth, then cut the ends off, according to how much growth, I'm using Robin's method to accomplish this, so i can still keep the length.

Following the advice from my last thread: stay texturized/go relaxed: it really helped when i rinsed my hair a few days ago in six braids, added some le-kair cholesterol and detangled with a wide tooth comb (my niece helped) my hair is really soft. I'd like to say thank-you all for the great advice.

My hair is underporessed at the roots and stuff on my right side and front side. So my front and right side is wavy and everything else is straight. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, but I don't plan on getting a corrective relaxer. I might just grow mines out now that you brought it up.

It's great that you're not going to go ahead with the corrective relaxer and that your new techniques are working.

I'm kind of confused about something. You said you're not transitioning, but you're going to trim your hair every six months after you do a touch up. Are you only trimming off the underprocessed hair?

Blueflower, i'm cutting out the underprocessed hair, but still relaxing on newgrowth only every six months. Transitioining IMO would be growing my hair all natural and cutting out the chemically processed hair, which i'm not prepared to do. Its not that my hair can't handle chemicals, i've fallen into the wrong hands and ended up with different textures.

den1, I too have underprocessed portions from an unfortunate venture into self-relaxing about a year ago -- I was so scared to overprocess that I didn't leave relaxer on long enough. Anywho, I'm not doing anything special -- just plan to grow out and do "little chops" along the way and continue handling my hair with the usual TLC, rollersetting, reducing/eliminating heat, etc. When I rollerset, the different textures are not noticeable and hair comes out straight and bouncy so I stick with that for the most part. I have a couple of quick "wash & go" protective sytles that I resort to when in a hurry or need to deal with humidity/frizzies.

I don't really have tangle issues generally, however, when I'm more than 8 weeks post relaxer, I find that washing hair in large loose braids cuts down tangles significantly and looks like you'r already doing that . . .

I am also-
I'm tempted to get a corrective relaxer but I'm afraid of breakage- I'm not doing anything special, just minimizing manipulation- I find that condition washes makes my ends stronger and thicker... or maybe it's the nexus humectress

DITTO!! Conditioner washes IMO is the key to keeping my hair in good condition, it really makes my hair soft and stronger. I'm limiting shampooing for when i want to remove build-up. Thanks

Me!!!! Self relaxed last month and now I have almost 4 months of new growth. I just plan on waiting until mid September and try it again w/ Mizani. Luckily for me, I'm not underprocessed in just 1 area...it's my whole head. I used Revlon and did my whole head and rinsed in 10 minutes! I was scared of overprocessing.

My hair is underprocessed right dead smack in the middle so I have no clue of what to do. My stylist said she can fix the problem but I'm not sure if I want to risk it because she would have to relax over the relaxed portion to get to the middle underprocessed area. I don't like the idea of having -----~~~~~~~~------ hair so I'm leaning towards having her fix the problem. I'm at 4 months post relaxer and I'm going to wait two more months before I make my decision.

Jennifer,
THAT JUST how parts of my hair look too! Im getting a touch up tomorrow and Im going to ask what they suggest. maybe next time Ill let them fix it...
