I'm a newbie trying to grow my hair long and healthy. I had always had very healthy hair but for some reason after I gave birth to my beautiful daughter and moved to the States my hair lost its healthiness and length and since then it's been a struggle to get it back on track. So hopefully I will get some pointers on this forum. My hair is short now and I do not have the slightest clue what to do with it:confused:
I want long hair now:D :D !!

I'm feeling like a loner here as it seems like everyone here has their hair game on lock. But I know I'm not the only newbie (if not in the literal sense of being new to LHCF, then at least in the sense of getting her healthy hair routine together). Who else is a "newbie"? We need to support one another . . . so we can have beautiful fotki shots, too

I'm new! And I will try to post pics soon. :)

Well, i've been here since January, but in terms of really taking the advice on the boards, I've been on-again, off-again . . . mostly experimenting with different products and trying to find what works for me. So far, I have to say I've been disappointed. I know different things work for different people and this is just part of the process . . . but it can get a little discouraging. I almost feel like I was doing better when I wasn't *trying* to grow my hair and just did whatever came naturally.

ITA! I am so glad I'm not the only one. My cousin, who graduated from high school last weekend uses a flat iron every week (if not more than that...). And she doesn't even use a regular conditioner (much less deep conditioning). She only uses leave ins. I asked her about it and she says "that's tou much trouble. If it ain't leave in, I'm not doing it." Now, she didn't say it in a mean way, so I wasn't offended. But, I was bothered. Why the heck am I doing all this extra stuff, pampering my hair and stuff, and it's breaking all over the place...while she can do whatever and her hair just grows and grows. I love her, she's family. And she's a sweet girl, but I'm like...why doesn't my hair grow like that?? She's APL, but she just chopped it off from BSL. She's always been BSL. And with those habits, I know she will be BSL again soon. I just don't get it!?!? :violin:

if it makes you feel any better, everytime ireach a target, my journey begins again to reach another one!

Candy, you are so sweet!!!

I am a newbie - joined in late March and started my "jouney" in mid-March prior to finding the board. I am so PROUD of myself, too! I have been taking my vits for a whole 2 mos (and my kids have, too) AND I am MOST proud of the fact that I have used NO direct heat on my hair for the past 2 mos!!!! And THAT is a HUGE accomplishment for me!!! (YAY ME!!):yay: :yay:

I have been so inspsired by several of the ladies here (Delta_Gyrl, Candy_C, LocksOfLuv - to name a few...) simply because these ladies basically started with a length close to mine and are now at or beyond my ultimate hair goal. Plus, it is so motivating to see when people who have my desired length are incorporating aspects of the same regimen as I am.

Hang in there, GG, "we're all in this together...." (singing to myself the song from High School Musical :look: )

And I feel like adding what my regimen is:

pre-poo before every wash
CW at least 3X per month (sometimes more if I just feel like washing)
clarify once per month just for GP
whole head baggy nightly
weekly DC
no direct heat until my b-day in feb.
I do comb & brush once per day (in the morning when I bun) - I can't seem to break that habit, but it is low manipulation to me...
I am stretching my relaxer until my b-day
and OF COURSE my vits ;)

I am really hoping to achieve great results, it is hard to tell right now if I've gained any length because my NG is so bushy  . We'll see...

Good luck to all the :newbie: s and HHG!

im a newbie; only about 4months in. And let me tell you what a long journey it will be because i cant even begin to worry about length until my transition is over and done with :ohwell:

this is what makes me NOT want to transition...but there are some ladies here who have acheived great length w/o BCing and just going on a permanent stretch...

I'm so glad that you started this topic. While I love seeing all the progress that the ladies who are well into their journey have made, I've also felt like almost everyone here was well on the way to or past their goals. I'm at the beginning too ... I've been actively taking care of my hair since mid-april. I was taking pretty good care of it before, but since finding LHCF, I've learned so much about other things I should be doing to keep my hair healthy. Right before I found LHCF, I began to experience some breakage, largely due to my poor diet, and not moisturizing properly, so I'm about to really start over tomorrow with a cut to make the rest of my hair closer to the length of the hair that broke off :ohwell:. I really don't want to do it, since my hairdresser has told me during my last few visits that the breakage has stopped, and my hair is healthy again, but after a lot of debating with myself, I figure it's probably best to start again fresh. It's great to know that there are others just starting out too. Happy growing everyone! :D

I guess I am a newbie all over again. I was a lurker since 2004 and I joined in 2005. I don't think I started posting until last year. I didn't start applying what I learned until now. I just chopped off all of my dead ends. I'm excited that I started over and I'm doing it right this time. I'm so serious. :whip:

is like this too, all use does is weave.. takes out about every 3 weeks washes, barely conditioners, no DC, weaves right back up relaxes about every 8 weeks same day as taking out her weave and weaves right back up and she is inching closer and closer to BSL everytime she takes her weave out; although its quite thin. I try to give her some tips but she doesn't listen, I can't blame her really as my hair is just above shoulders .

i am not new but i just starting to learn what works for me and afther all this stuff i got i have found out less is best in my case 2 or 3 good shampoo and conditioner and deep con some good moisturizer and oils:) and bagging and vit i am not all over the place i still am a pj but not that bad any more:lachen: and now my hair is growing:lol:

if you count the end of january as new then count me in!!!!

i lurked for a while...there wasn't much imput i could put into the board since my hair was jacked, but since reading product and regime suggestions and then finding what works and actually seeing PROGRESS i feel I can contribute now....

anyhoo us newbies gotta stick together!

its kind of hard bein new cuz i find myself readin the boards and the old timers are givin all the other ladies shout-outs and talkin about how they met up for lunch n this and that and i feel like the kid picked last to play softball lol, i kid, but really, i hope that as newbies, we can all relate our experiences to eachother and encourage eachother on in our goal for longer healthy hair!!! :)

I suffered a serious setback recently (not taking proper care of my braids) so I feel like I'm starting all over again. One thing I have to my advantage is that I know what works for me so I promise myself never to abandon the *tried and true* again. :yep:

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie too, although I have been lurking for a while now. I am still trying to get my staple products together. I am currently focused on achieving healthy hair. Best wishes to everyone on their journey.

Hair Type: 4a/Relaxed
Current Style: Half wig
Goal for 2007: Shoulder Length
Ultimate goal: APL

I'm a newbie too, 8 weeks into my hair journey and getting very impatient. I already have 1+ inch of new growth and loving it, except that I have no idea what to do with it at this stage. But I'm on a mission and I won't be satisfied until I am firmly at BSL

I'm gonna count myself as a newbie. I've been here since October and while I have found some things that work for my hair, I still don't have a solid regimen and trying to keep moisture in my hair without breaking out the expensive products.

I am too. We just like to post in the OT forum alot. I just came here in 2006 Nov and i am still trying to get a lot of knowledge for what my hair likes and how to grow it out...

I'm a newbie too. I started browsing this place in maybe January and I finally joined. I'm a bit discouraged too, my rollersets always turn out horrible if I do them myself. :ohwell:
