Thanks to the advice I've received from you ladies, my hair is growing and is stronger and silkier than ever. It feels wonderful -- but the emphasis is the word feels . . . it doesn't look that much different because I still can't style my hair worth a damn. I do the curly-que thing (like I wore to the DC meetup) most times because it's easy and, I think, cute. But, other than that I'm really at a loss . . . my hair is too short to do french braides (which I love) and even when I do buns or low ponytails, I need to use hairclips to keep the flyaways under control. (Thanks, once again, to a jacked up haircut I got from a greedy stylist who thought she could get me to come in every week by chopping off my hair :nono:) My hair is pretty thick so when I try to do a sleek bob . . . it comes out not-so-sleek at all. I'm also avoiding heat, so not using curling irons or flatirons all that much.

I guess what I'm getting at is how can I style my hair (other than the tangled mass of curls)? The black hair magazines usually aren't much help to me because the styles are way to elaborate for me and my skill level (plus the directions always suck!). Any websites or other helpful ideas you can post?

I'm an awful stylist...and a lazy one to boot.

Usually I wear a phony tail or a quick weave. But, when I do style my hair, I tend to roller set it and pin the back up (French twist style), and fluff up the top with my fingers, pulling a few curls into my face and on the sides. I pin pieces on the sides up as needed.

The great thing about this style is it looked great when my hair was nape length to now, and it's great to disguse awkward grow-outs and even balding spots (trust me, I've had a few :ohwell:.)

The best part is you just finger-style, feeling your way to the style. Just don't overwork the curls. :)

I tried to find a picture of this style, but I haven't yet. But it's cute and sophisticated. I get tons of compliments! :yep:

i dont know of any websites off the bat. when you do your rollersets, experiment with different sizes. try using medium to jumbo sized ones along the bottom and roll them up so you can have flips . and roll the ones at the top with slightly smaller sized ones the same way and comb them down for body. try a side part in the front with a side bang (slight swoop that hangs in your face) . try flat twists (if you know how to do them) in the middle of the front of you head, with the sides combed and slicked down. and roll your the rest of your hair with small rollers and make little candy curls. try a braid out with small and medium sized plaits. braid outs look cute and natural on shorter hair
