Which is the better option...?

Get a relaxer and wait two-four weeks to color??

Or get it colored and wait two-four weeks to relax??

Get a relaxer and then wait to color.

poohbear-are you not transitioning anymore

I don't think it really matters b/c it ends up being the same thing anyway (you're already starting with a relaxed head so TECHNICALLY, you've already relaxed first). I got my color first (highlights) after waiting six wks post perm then did my perm 3 wks after.

When I first joined this forum, my goal was to achieve length and I never thought about going natural. I want to see how long my hair can get as relaxed since I have been relaxed most of my life. That's why I have been posting several threads about transitioning and relaxing. After achieving length, THEN I will consider transitioning to natural in the future. (I know it has been said it's harder to transition with longer hair but I will just have to deal with it when it all comes down).

I understand exactly what you mean I've been thinking the same thing.

Relax first, then color. That's the general rule of thumb. What type of color are you using? Temp, demi, semi or permanent?

One or the other. Not both because it will cause un-needed damage to your hair. If you really want to achieve your goals your gonna have to sacrfice. Some people can do it and get away with it, but I'm not taking any chances. When my hair was short I was a natural head so I dyed it red and everything else. I'd love to dye my hair a rich chocolate brown but because I relax I know better. Just my .02.

I want to color. I got a relaxer about 2 wks ago so would this be a good time or should I wait and do it alongside my next relaxer? I thought that if you were going to do them both you did them together? What is the max time after a fresh relaxer I can wait to do a color? Can I just purchase a home kit or do I have to go to a salon?

Two-Three weeks is enough time.

People usually do rinses and semi perms the same day as a relaxer but I don't know about perm colour.
