okay you know how you smooth your hair down and you see those stubborn short pieces of hair that tend to stick up a little? How can you tell if it was a hair that broke off at the shaft or if it is a new hair that is growing in

I don't think you really can tell, unless there's a few or even a bunch of short hairs all in one spot - then it has to be breakage.

I think it is new hair growing in, because this happens to me when I flat iron my hair and take it down from the wrap the next day. Right at the top of my head are a couple of shorties sticking up, and I know they can't be broken off, cause while I primarily wear my hair in a bun I also wear it down 2-3x per week and I don't always wear it in a wrap to bed. I basically try to vary the position it lays in to prevent problems, so it has to be hair growing in. That part of my hair is not even exposed to any kind of friction to cause damage.

That's exactly what I wanted to know. I was concerned that my hair was breaking, but then I thought that it may be a new hair growing in. Why havn't I ever noticed this before I wonder

I think it also depends on how many of them you see. If there's a lot, then it could be breakage. If just a few here and there, then probably not. Also, if they are of different lengths, then that's probably more proof of them being new hairs growing in. Whereas, I would think breakage would be all the same length.

Girl, don't you pull those out.

Yes this is a very good question. I always thought those hairs were stubborn strands that didnt take well with the relaxer. I used to have a lot of these when I first joined this board. Now I dont have this problem as much. I think a lot of the way your hair acts has to do with training it and establishing a routine that works. My hair has been responding very well to Elasta products but it has taken some time to really see consistent results.
