To use a Leave In Conditioner, or a Wrap Lotion?

I'm asking because my mom washed her hair and asked me to rollerset it for her a little while ago, and while I use a leave in, she told me to use her wrap lotion. So I did. Then she said I didn't use enough (she wanted me to COAT HER HAIR 254653x's OVER with that stuff) so I put a little more on there, then started to roll it.

At first she was about to use pantene r&n set lotion and i was like.. no so i pulled out the motions foam. Anyway..

which do you think is better to use? a leave in or a wrap/set lotion, why, and what kind do you use?

a leave-in or just plain water

I always use a foam/setting lotion, like Kera Care wrap/set foam. But I know people who only use water or a leave in and so do their hair stylists. I guess it depends on the look you're going for. I want to try it w/o a setting lotion to see the difference.

so does using a leave it make your end result different from the end result of using a wrap/set lotion?

Leave-in conditioners always leave my hair nice and soft and touchable.

Wrap/set lotions always left my hair crisp, crunchy and a little hard. I haven't used wrap/set lotions in a very long time. I'm definitely sticking with my leave-ins.

that's what i thought, that's why i made her put down the pantene (i hate that stuff!).

i'm mad that she wasn't even under the dryer for 30 minutes and she just got up and blowdried her hair!! she just defeated the purpose. now watch her go get the curling iron in the morning.

Leave in, preferably Salerm 21. I rollerset on Monday for the first time in a long time, and my hair came out so soft, smooth and bouncy.

Gee... I feel like I must be putting to much.. but my hair always come out nice..light and bouncy..
1.I spray scalp w surge
2.put a the size of a quarter of NTM leave-in on my hair
3.a little keracare foam setting on my hair
4.design essentials serum on my hair (about a quarter size)
and keep a water bottle handy for when it starts to dry. This is my latest rollerset method and i'm alway happy.

When I first got my relaxer I gave the stylest the keracare and she put a hand full it was waaaaaaay to much. my hair came out crunchy!

wrap/setting lotions have left my hair kinda crispy too...and even sticky sometimes with white residue.

So now I just use a leave-in and water.

I have soft shiney rollersets. My secret is what is in my spray bottle.
After I wash/condition my hair;
1. Put 2-3 squirts of Ego boost leave in
2. Apply Serum( preferable redken heat glide)
3. Section hair
4. Spray contents of spray bottle on each section of hair ( my hair is sectioned into 3 main sections)
Contents of spray bottle
* 2 parts Keracare setting lotion ( A GOD SEND for me!!!)
* 8-10 parts water
* 2 little squirts of olive oil

I get amazing rollersets this way!

I've used elasta qp's design foam... even elasta qp's feels like silk gel to give a little hold. Never left my hair crunchy. Just don't use too much.

The pantene setting lotion is good too, but I hate the smell. The motions foam made my hair break. It has SD alcohol 40 in it.

Oh, I put leave in and oil and some mositurizer on the very ends of my hair as well. I really get skimpy with the products because I don't want to weigh my hair down and ruin my beautiful roller set, but I want it to be moist too. Tiny amounts do the trick.

I agree. After two days I'm ready to rewash my hair anyway, so I really don't need it to last that long to begin with.

I use Motion Leave in and I put Shea Butter on each section as I roll. My roller set has never been so soft and bouncy. Less is more.

DITTO. I use a dime size mixture of nexxus headress & giovanni direct with a couple drops of rosemary oil. If I need to rewet while rollersetting, I use water.

wow, thanks ladies. i'm still trying to get some salerm, but i may try the elasta qp when i come out of braids. thanks again.

Actually, the one wrap/set lotion that always left my hair feeling and looking good after a roller set was the Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and Natural Wrap and Set Lotion. I have not roller set my hair in some time, and currently use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. I partially dry my hair under the hood dryer, and then blow it out with a blow dryer and comb.

It all depends for me....
If I want it to dry quickly then I don't use anything....but my sets don't last as long.
I use a spray leave in for a softer hold.
I use a CREME wrap(Lottabody Creme for Wrapping and setting) when I want a little more hold...but no crunch or crispiness.
I also like Lottabody Wrap-N-Tap lotion for wrapping(not the purple setting lotion-yuk!

...different from the creme) to set with.

I think it's good to mix some liquid leave in with some lotta body include a little hot six oil in the water mix. Shake. Also apply a litte wrapping foam for a stronger curl.
