Which clips are best for setting?

Do you guys use the long ones that look like a pelican's beak, or the shot clips? And which short ones? Metal or plastic? The metal ones I have always snag my hair. Tell me there's a better choice..

Is there a solution for the snagging of the hair with the pin that holds the clip together or the springs?
