I did a braid out for the first time in ages after watching this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Du_5CFYkoc

It came out pretty well but it had no real shape once all the braids were taken down. I ended up pinning up my hair.

So, when do I get my hair cut, when it's straight or when it's curly?

I guess is better if the hair is straight, because you will see how the hair is actually going to look like

When my hair was long (and even now that it's short) I never cut my hair wet. When you are natural you may have more shrinkage in one area than in another. This can cause the cut to come out uneven and you could end up cutting off more than you really wanted to. I let a stylist do that to me once and I will never do it again.

I only cut my hair when straight. I know that some (who don't ever straighten obviously) cut when it's still curly, but in my experience a clean and accurate cut that can only be done on straight hair yields the best "shape" overall.
