when oils go rancid?

does anyone know how to tell when oils go rancid? Or does anyone have a time table? i think my WGO went rancid and i tossed it some time ago. what about shea butter? i bought some yellow shea on the street and it stinks! Thanks!

I don't know. But one time I got some shea butter from a street vendor and it too was yellow and it smelled really bad. I did not even use it.
