I have no tips sorry.. but your title made me laugh.. it almost sounds like, "When keeping it real goes wrong"

Okay you just made burst out laughing.........I am not a pro or anything but I know you need a little more hair to cover that bun........I made my bun a little smaller so I would cover everything I just put a picture of my bun in my album

Oh girl, it's not that bad. :) Have you tried checking out DontSpeakDefeat's album? From what I recall she had a good bun making album in there. It's fantastic!

LOL ....thats what I was thinking too :-)

Thanks for the tips ladies.

Sorry senimoni...when I clicked on your picture link and saw your pic, I couldn't help but laugh  (not in a bad way ;) )!

I would use something like a synthetic hair scrunchie that's the same color as your hair instead of a white sock.
I tried using a gray foam donut from Sally's once and my bun looked like yours!
It's okay. Hope you have better luck in styling your bun next time. :)

:lachen: LMAO at the title of the post... not at you girl! Like PB said, get some fake hair, or make it smaller. You'll have enough in no time.

Ha hahahaha!! I love the title of this thread!! hahaha :)
Anyway, I would definitely check out DSD's instructions. Also, like others have said, try using a scrunchy or whatever you hold it with that's closer to your hair color. You may want to use the ones that have hair around them already!

See I knew you would laugh.....I thought yall were my girls :-)

I'm still laughing myself actually.

I will get some fake hair.....tracks or bulk?? Unfortunately I cannot find the scrunchies that look like/made out of hair.

When Cinnabuns first made my bun, I was having problems covering the whole bun too. That's why I used a black sock bun so it's less noticable. :)

Yep! This is how I learned to make a proper bun:)

Girlfriend, I feel your pain! I had the same problem. One thing for sure I would do different, I would change the color of the sock. I would get a darker sock, then I would try DSD method. Her method was great! If all else fails (which it did for me), I went to the BSS and bought me a fake donut. Help out well with the baggie method.

Now had you not said "don't laugh" I would not have I feel for you...I used to have the same problem when I used to use the grey foam ones, I only tried it again after going LHCF.

I like DSD's method. I plan to make one for my baggie days..what I wear now is I took a gray foam one (small) and cut a black satin bonnet (some how I had like 5 of them at home...hehe) then I sewed it around the donut (the way DSD does the hair). This way it won't be as noticeable if it separates and my hair doesn't snag...I wear it EVERYDAY.

Yeah the white sock was just so I could see how much space was open. I have a darker sock to cover it with. I'm just going to make my own donut.

Stay tuned :-)

if your hair is too short for a full on sock bun, you could try it with a couple of scrunchies....make sure theyre black!

If you're not crafty, look for one of those hair scrunchies by Revlon. Sally's definitely carries them, and I've seen them at some Walgreens and other independent beauty supply stores. You can't go wrong under $10 and you won't end up with white sock/stocking/stuffing sticking out of your bun. The hair scrunchie comes in various shades - black, dark brown, etc so it matches really well and with a couple of ouchless elastics, some leave-in conditioner/serum and a hairbrush you will have a realistically-sized and colored bun in a minute ..
