I have been doing it when I shampoo my hair. I have been reading that some of you do it when you add conditioner. I only comb my hair once a week when I wash it.

Sometimes I detangle with conditioner in my hair, lately I have actually been doing so after I rinse the conditioner out because my conditioner does such a great job of detangling my hair.

ive tried all of those! when i shampoo, when i pre-shampoo, when i condition.....most recently i waited til EVERYTHING was done and i lost the smallest amount of hair ever!

i pre-shampoo'd, separated into like 10 secitions with ouchless ponytail holders...rinsed, shampoo'd, ACV'd, and conditioned. then when i got out, i coated each section with salerm, and put it in bantu knots and let it sit for like 20 minutes....

it was the easiest detangle EVER! and i lost very little hair....i only do it once a week generally....unless im protective styling.

I shampoo with my Loprox Rh shampoo and condition my hair with VO5 or DDTA and rinse my hair. When I get out the shower I pick it out. By this time it's very easy and the pick goes through with no problems. Then I add a tablespoon of shea butter warmed up for 15 seconds in the microwave. I dont pick my hair after I massage the shea through it. At that point I grab sections of hair and start doing fat twists until my whole head is done. Then I let my hair airdry and stretch out in the fat twists. Then I take down the twists, seperating them with my fingers and gently lift my hair with a pick and that's it. -- jainygirl

I detangle at the end once I have rinsed out my deep conditioner. But every step of the way, prior to the comb-out, will determine how easy or difficult the combout/detangle session will be. :)

Hey
I detangle at almost every stage. I detangle it dry before my pre-poo (if im doing one) then when i wash that out and add conditioner i comb thru again and then once ive rinsed it all out. I do have to add that my hair is fairly easy to detangle and im certainly not head sore...lol

i detangle after i put in my leave in conditioner. i dont think its necessary for me to detangle more than once.

After I rinse out my conditioner and put in Biolage Detangling Solution- that stuff is awesome. I'm going to try only brushing with the demnan to detangle once I week. I know it's bad I do dry comb on occasion.

I detangle every week or two. I only do it when I have conditioner in my hair and again when I'm rinsing it out while my head is under the water.

I do it once I have washed, conditioned and put shea butter in my hair. That is the only time I have ever been able to do it.

I detangle once a week during my conditioner washes using a wide-teeth comb. After rinsing I comb every section of my hair that I will be two-strand twisting with a fine-teeth comb.

Every night I braid my hair into 6 or 7 braids.so when it time to wash it..it is pretty tangle free, but I do comb through it when I have conditioner in it.

I detangle after I've washed and deep conditioned. I divide my hair into 14 sections then apply leave in conditioner to each section and comb thru with my K Cutter.

Thanks for the responses. It seems people do detangling at different stages in the hair washing process.

Lately I've had increased shedding which gives me bad tangles so I detangle before, during precondition, and in the final conditioning. I can't remember who recommended the put conditioner on your hair before shampooing it but its great and has helped to reduce my tangles quite a bit.

I only detangle in the shower, w/ a head full of conditioner. I use a K cutter comb, which I love. If my hair is dry and I am re-twisting or need to "comb" I use my fingers, otherwise, I don't comb it anyother time.

I find I lose less hair if I detangle after doing either a hot oil (coconut) treatment or when my hair is dry, I'll spritz a little water/oil/conditioner mixture in my hair and detangle section by section. If I detangle in the shower, I usually lose a lot more hair. I still have scab hair that I'm trimming as I see the ends splitting. My hair snaps awfully if it is drenched soaked and I try to comb through it.

My cousin tried combing my hair when it was dry. I was like NOOOOOO. You have to do it when it is wet. She was so in awe of me becoming natural that she was playing in my hair like I was some doll. She at least gave me a cute style to rock this week.
