Do you try it again? (add oils, clarify and reuse, etc) OR just throw it out??

I ask because if a product doesn't give solid results.. I usually pass it on to one of my sisters. I rarely bother with trying it again under a special circumstance (like after clarifying) because my policy for my hair is... if if doesn't work at one point, that means its not practical for my regime. There are some heavy hitter products that i only use after 9 weeks, and i dont try things out on my hair at that time, but if a product doesn't give good results at week 7, i doubt it'll come in handy later on. Plus, almost everything gives me decent results weeks 1-4.

Also, with cheapie conditioners, i use them as shaving cream or slather it on 5-10 mins before as preconditioner

Its funny you should say that about the shaving cream, I just did that yesterday with one of my v05's, bluberries and cream, its the only I don't like but with all of my other Things that I don't like right away I'll just add something like honey,evoo,water,etc.. depending on what it feels like it needs. It usually does the trick, if not I just toss it.I figure i've wasted five dollars before on other stuff:ohwell:

Depending on what it is, I'll try it again just to make sure. If it still doesn't work, I donate it (along with other products and things I can't use) to a shelter for women.

I usually try a topically-applied product consistently for about a month if it doesn’t “work” the first time I use it. Some products really just take time to work well, like vitamins or conditioners (and vitamins I use for at least 3-6 months before making a decision). The converse is true as well, some things I’ve tried the first time has worked excellently, then I stopped getting the same results the following times I’ve used it.

My general rule of thumb is to give products a chance to work...in time. Then if I don't get the results I expect, then I give them to someone who could possibly use it (like Isis, I sometimes donate items to the women in shelter I work at), or I “doctor” it a bit in such a way that it is useful to me. When all else fails, then I may throw the product away. But, I am so horribly frugal, I usually try to find a use everything.

The only times I’ll throw away something after one use is if I have a negative reaction to it. :yep:

i'll try it again. like if a conditioner doesn't work well when i'm 5 weeks post, i'll try it again to see if it's better 2 weeks post. it's the best way to learn what's good for your hair when (fill in blank).

Isis, thats a great way to get the most out of your purchase. I wanted to donate a whole box of products some brand new, some used 1 or 2x, and they refused most of my stuff. I live in NYC, and this could possibly be a local restriction, but she told me that they only accept donations from companies directly. She did accept my sealed products thoguh (which is understandable).

I normally keep it for a while because i feel like I wasted money, but I normally never try it again. Several times of that cycle has helped me cure my PJism. I just stick with what works for the most part now.

But, there have been a few products that seemed to worked better for me later.

I tried some new products when my hair was having some trouble. They did not help at all. After I got my hari trimmed, those same products were great.
