I got to thinking about this hair journey and I must say I am very pleased w/ my progress thus far. :woot: I also thought about some of my friends and what tips I would give them if they asked how to get long/healthy hair. If you were limited to 5 tips which ones would make your "fave five"?:grouphug3:

Here's Mine:
1. Deep condition weekly
2. Bun daily
3. Direct heat no more than once a month
4. Take pictures
5. Be patient

1) Little to no heat
2) Bun, bun, bun
3) Moisturize and seal..always
4) Co-wash as often as possible
5) Stay away from hairdressers who insist on ripping through your hair with teeny weeny rat tail combs!!!!

DC weekly (moisturize & seal daily)
Don't forget about protein treatments (especially if you're relaxed)
Low mani/protective styles to protect your ends
Dust when needed
No/low direct heat

In no particular order:

Chicoro's moisturising technique
Bunning
Protective styling/ Low manipulation
Co-washing
IA with patience and taking progress pics!

1. Steaming
2. wigs/cornrows
3. cowashing
4. patience
5. more patience

  1. Detangle in the shower only, with a bunch of conditioner
  2. Flatiron with a "chaser" (some use a comb, I use a denman paddle brush)
  3. Co-wash instead of shampooing (unless you're going to flatiron)
  4. Pictures
  5. Don't worry, it'll get there eventually.

1) Deep Conditioning with Protein and Moisture
2) Protective styling (Hair in a Bag, Phony Pony, Half Wigs, Wigs, Lacefronts)
3) Steaming
4) Patience
5) Listening to my hair needs :) Keeping it happy, balanced, trimmed and protected

I'm pleased with my progress also, wish I was a little bit closer to BSL, but the 5 tips I would recommend:

1) Don't cut your hair more than 1 inch, if you was take the time and calculate the weeks and growth you would cut what u grew, off.

2) Try to balance protein and moisture

3) Moisturize your ends and hide every now and then, but try to wear your hair out every now and then, so your hair can get use to the air.

4) Don't wear your ponytails and buns too tight.

5) Stop brushing your hair.

My five:

1) Patience

2) Cover your natural hair before laying down (need to stop those SSKs)

All of these are the same tips I was giving my friends on facebook when they saw how my hair did a 360 and had grown so much since being on my hhj. My hair used to be see through, thin and never got passed SL. I found LHCF, cut off all my relaxed ends( was transitioning), texlaxed, and followed these tips and my hair grew to full thick APL in a little over a year.

1. If they are relaxed, stretch relaxers at least 2 months!!!! ( saved me before I went natural)
2.Moisturize and seal
3. Keep hair off shoulders
4. Wash and deep condition every 1-2 weeks
5. Rollerset instead of flat-ironing; however if you have to flatiron don't do it unless you've washed and deep conditioned and no more than once a week.

For Naturals:

1. Get to know your hair! (How it reacts to products and styles. What makes it feel nice, what doesn't. What it likes, what it doesn't. BTW, your hair should be having a love affair with CONDITIONER!:lick:)
2. Protective/low manipulation styles (Rock those twists HARD until your hair is long enough for low tension buns.)
3. Learn to love your satin scarf and also get a slippery satin pillow (Do both! Why not?)
4. Learn to love your FRIZZIES! (Lay off that heat! Your hair can be gorgeous AND frizzy! I've seen it happen!)
5. Combs and brushes are not your friend! (Check out Lisa Akbari's youtube vid about finger combing afro-textured hair. It's was a real eye-opener for me!)
