If I'm putting my hair back in a bun, I like to use Beeswax on my edges to flatten my new growth. One of my sisters has her hair natural and she also uses it on her edges. I normally just go over the edges with a wet toothbrush and then apply a little Beeswax to either the toothbrush or directly on your edges...and just style with the toothbrush. Whichever way you style it, it will stay that way and the Beeswax will actually condition your hair and keep it soft. Hope this helps!

Healthy Hair Butter has always worked the best for me but I think I'm having build-up issues right now.
Also, Aveda Elixir, Creamy Leave-ins, Hair Milk, and Lottabody Setting Lotion.

We've been using "the toothbruth technique" in my family for years. It's the best tool for shaping your edges, hairline, sideburns, etc.

I wash with L'Anza Strait Line shampoo and deep condition for an hour under the heating bonnet dryer with L'Anza Strait Line conditioner. It really stretches the new growth such that my bun is less helmet-like. I endorse these products.

Note: The LSL conditioner if left in after deep conditioning can cause the hair to dry kinda sticky. Too much product on the hair! I have to rinse it all out before combing my hair with detangler only and bunning. The straightening effect remains after the rinse, though.

I don't brush or comb the edges in particular, but I sleep in a silky scarf. That presses them down a bit every night.

:scratchch One of my friends uses this technique too. I may have to try this. :scratchch

Right after wash and condition, I put in John Friedas moisture remedy balm on my wet roots/new growth. Once dry comes out so soft and smooth.

HHB or hair milk, but most times I just throw a scarf on for a while and then take it off and im good for the day.

I'm just now seeing this thread. Poohbear, the last jar I bought was from PathMark (supermarket). :)

I like the Profectiv products eg Anti dryness strengthener and the Break free daily leave in strengthener. They keep the new growth nice and soft. Also surge woojee cream on wet/damp hair.

Note to self: Try KMS Silker shaping cream.

WGO it works wonders for my hair, but before that in high school it was Jam and H2O. I think I might go and buy some and do a combo mixture to see what I get.

Same here. Guess what? It still work!!!! (Jam extra hold)

Elasta QP's Mango Butter! Smoothes them edges down without being greasy, sticky or make my hair hard feeling. BTW it smells wonderful too!

I second this. I no longer use gel anymore (weither it's non-alcoholic or not). It's too drying for my hair. Instead use the QP Mango Buter on my new growth and DNL Corrective Leave-in Conditioner mixed with water in my spray bottle for my hair. Great combo!! :)

I also use Elasta QP Mango butter on wet roots, and for daily control when my hair is dry I use ORS olive oil moisturizer or WGO. Flattening my puffy roots at night with a satin scarf helps a great deal.
