What do you ladies think is the best moisturizer for use on cornrows under a sew-in weave? Something that doesnt create lots of buildup. I tried Surge but it made my skin way too dry.

I am sure some of the weavemasters will be able to help better than I, but the first thing I thought of was curl activator. As you have found, though, you definitely don't want to use Surge. It is a protein, a detangler, a growth stimulator, but NOT a moisturizer. You can you it in conjunction with a moisturizer if you find your hair can tolerate it, but not in place of. HTH.

I agree with Dreemssold. If you use surge use it with a oil. I think Surge is best thing for hair and defiantely weaves because it stimulate growth. I use both Surge and curl activatior on my hair along with WGO. :lachen:

I agree with Dreemsold, I think it is too irritating to use daily alone. My scalp is not sensitive so I do use it followed by Better Braid Un-Braid spray daily. Twice a week I follow that with jojoba oil. HTH.

When I had a sew in, I became addicted to washing and conditioning my hair every day or at the least every other day. When I would touch my cornrows underneath, they were always very moist. Other than that I did not use any daily moisturizing prodcuts.

My hair grew a lot, too.

I have 4z (LOL) hair, it's very dry.
When I wear sewn-in's I use all ORS products (except for shampoo and conditioner):

http://www.organicrootstimulator.com/

(you can order samples of all these products I am talking about)

To oil my scalp I use their Soy Oil

I also use their Shea Butter to soften my hair

I use the Olive Oil Lotion to add moisture to *my* hair that has been left out to cover the tracks

I use the Olive Oil Sheen Spray to add a little shine to *my* hair (I try my best not to spray too much on the actual weave

To cleanse my scalp and the weave without shampoo (this is how your weaves last longer) I use their Herbal Cleanse latherless shampoo. THIS STUFF IS AWESOME. Smells decent, and is really good at removing oiliness (is that a word lol) and dirt from your scalp and weave. Its also good to use when you've been someplace smoky and your hair reeks.

Sometimes, right after my weave is done, my scalp itches a lot and so I use their Dry Scalp Relief oil for that.

I didn't really plan to use all ORS products with my weave, I just looked up one day and realized that that was all I was using LOL...Funny enough, I don't really use these same products when I don't have a weave. Just the oil sheen and the soy oil while I'm giving my hair a rest from the weave.

HTH! :)

I wash and condition my hair every other day.....

i spray surge on my scalp, and than i use a dye applicator (the dropper kind) and put my essential oils in there and than drop it between my braids....

my hair also grows the most when i wash it more often....

Ladies I have another question in addition to this one. While wearing my weave, does taking evening primerose and fish oil pills help at all? I mean does the oils from the pills help to lubricate the scalp? I'm having my weave done by Edward Morrison (he does Kelita Smith's hair) this weekend so I want to know how to prepare. When I took my last weave out, my hair was very dry which I think was caused by Surge. Any suggestions!

Wanda, I don't know about the primrose and oils so I'm no help there...where is Edward Morrison located? LA or NY? I've never seen Kelita's hair look bad (I thought it was her hair actually!) so your weave should be wonderful! How much is he charging you? How long did it take you to get an appointment? I'm sorry, I'm questioning you like you did something wrong!LOL

Hi Paperdoll, Edward Morrison is located in Los Angeles at a shop called Borellis. Yes, Kelita's hair is a full weave. It always looks beautiful. He charges $700.00 which includes the hair (you can reuse the hair). It didn't take long at all to get an appointment. He only works in the shop on Saturdays because during the week he works on the Bernie Mac show. Also, he is very handsome.

Wow I always wondered about Kellitas hair, I thought it was real actually until this week and I realized she wasn't pulling her bangs back. Still looks good though.
