I was readin an old thread where Tracy mentioned puttin olive oil on washed hair, covered with foil, and pressed the flat iron over it.

What's it called? What are the benefits?

OMG

I was just thinking about this today. It's funny to see this thread made. We all must have hairlepathy :lachen:

I think it's called sealing.

It's supposed to help the oil to penetrate. I remember reading about it years ago.

I was thinking that it might make sense. A 300 degree iron is really going to open those cuticles up. However, how much damage would it cause? :scratchch

I don't remember exactly what it's called but I've seen it referred to as "ends sealing" or "sealing ends" or something like that. It is supposed to lock moisture into the hair.

so it opens the cuticle up to let moisture in? sounds the same as a steam treatment huh? then you would have to rinse w/ cold water or acv to close the cuticle back? Tracy get in here!

yall go first. i'll mess around and burn my ish. Gym, do you know what products I can search to find it?

I doubt much damage would result. IIRC, Tracy did not do this very often, and perhaps one should try the iron being a bit lower than that. I am unfamiliar with the boiling point of olive oil, however...Don't think it's 300 degrees, but not for certain.
