Ladies,

I have been blessed with the kind of problem we all face sooner or later. The deal is this, I just got a big promotion...YEAAAAAA. Here is the problem, with this new job I must maintain a certain "look" if you will. I had been loving the bun and doing the daily rinses and s-curl. But now, my hair has to look "media-ready" at least three days out of the week. I am unable to hit a salon mid-week because I may be called to travel at a moments notice. I can't quite get with the wig...which would seem to be the easiest solution. The bun is okay when I'm not on travel, but won't cut it otherwise. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

What's wrong with the bun? There are many ways to dress up protective styles. Also, what about the French roll (I guess this is what it's called---where the hair is rolled vertically in the back). I'd say find some interesting things to do with the protective styles.
Perhaps you can wear bangs along with the buns. I wouldn't jeoperdize my hair health. By the way, congratulations on the promotion.

Thanks Brownie,

Well it's not so much the bun, it's that I can't have that wet head look and since my hair is not fine after a while my bun is a tad bit frizzy or maybe puffy is the better word. I'm rocking a flip at the moment, and it is very complimentary. But also temporary. Strange also, as I have not had heat in my hair for a minute. I wish I knew how to do a french roll, myself. Stylist always want to put spray in your hair and gel with the roll. Then it itches to high heaven. If I could do the french roll, I would proably make it with the s-curl. Hmmmmmm.....good answer. Maybe with a little practice and prayer I could get it to look professional. Thanks again Brownie. Night Night ladies.

Okay, suggestion number two and three: What about one of those instant weaves/wigs (these are supposed to be quick and easy, and they blend in with the front of your hair); I think they call them 3/4 wigs also. Also you said you're sporting a flip; you could get some human hair weave sewn in or tracks (????????). That way your natural hair won't get abused by the daily styling and heat.

ElizaBlue, congratulations on your promotion!!!

Are you natural or relaxed? If you're relaxed you can try wrapping your hair at night and wearing it straight down on some days. You can also use caruso rollers to give you a curly look where you put really tight curls in the back and loose curls in the front to try to keep your hair from rubbing too much on your clothes. I guess we need to know what length you're dealing w/ to be able to give precise suggestions

Congrats, Elizablue! I understand how you must feel. Trying to maintain no-heat styles can be difficult! I'm a stay-at-home-Mom and I get antsy, so I know it's got to be tough for a corporate lady. Anyway, I'm sure there will be some great advice given on this thread. My one suggestion, Have you tried to accent the front of your hair with spiral tendrils? I have long layers in the front, and I do a bun or ponytail with what I call a curl bang. Set it with solar rollers or other small rollers while wet. I keeps you from having everything completely pulled back off the face. Anyway, congrats again and God bless!

I'd suggest a weave then. I mean, many AA females that work in front of the camera have them. I'd imagine it's probably because they don't want to stress their hair but want a look thats popular in their field of work.
