Hello ladies, I wanted to know what stopped breaking and or shedding for you...products, regimens, home remedies....whatever!!! TIA

Alter Ego oils, condtioners, etc. treatments w/ garlic are the truth. Alter Ego anything is the truth in my book... (*cough* relaxer *cough*)

Mmmm... anyway, for me, personally, raw eggs sitting on my head. And when I get sick of sweeping up hairs, garlic supps.

I like fancy treatments like Alter Ego or even inexpensive ones like Le Kair, but I am in school and need to save every bit of time and money I can right now.

Well, for me, I just had to chomp off all my dead ends. They were horrible and nothing was going to stop the ends from popping off. I was kind of depressed, because I was only 1.5 inches from APL. Thereafter, I have learned that sulfur from onions have been helpful to reduce shedding and stimulate growth. I used a food processor to grind the onion into a paste and put it directly on my head. It also helps for an itchy scalp. I also take protein supplements once a day and have increased my protein intake to 45 grams per day. As for products, I'm all over Rene Furterer's very dry hair line. HTH

A protein treatment to stop the breakage immediately (I use Dudley's DRC 28 - there are many others.). One application should stop the breakage.

Minimize or stop direct heat (etc. all irons, hand dryers, etc.)

Cut/trim/dust any damaged areas or split ends... they are gone forever and no product will "repair" it. LET IT GO.

Most of us combine so many products and regimes, we wouldn't be able to determine what one or two things caused the breakage. Simplify your regime once you recover, then build or swap out from there. You could start with a pre-shampoo treatment (if desired... I don't), a shampoo, conditioners (rinse out and leave-in) and very light protein treatment boost used every so often for shedding or breakage prevention. (I use Aphogee 2 minute - again there are many others). Most importantly a moisturizer of some sort (ie. balm or mist or homemade concoction for hair strands/scalp).

There are some great tips from this board, but don't up and go buy every product that gets a rave or that works for people. Search the breakage threads and learn from others' mistakes.

Moisutre, moisture, and more moisture. When I began doing DTs several times a week, I saw a HUGE difference. For upwards of 6 months, every time I wet my hair I did a DT. It was annoying and time consuming, but it was the only thing that worked for me!

hth!

MT and twice weekly DC's stopped my breakage, cold.

Shedding, I don't worry about - it's dead hair falling to make room for new hair *shrug* My hair needs to shed to stay healthy.

Depends on why I have breakage. Usually mine is the result of dry hair so I do deep conditioning treatments with either Kenra MC or Kera Care Humecto with some oil added. I also make sure that I moisturize daily (currently use Jane Carter's nourish and shine cream in the tube) and baggy whole head about 2-3 times a week for 30 min. If my moisture/protein balance is off I also incorporate the JOICO K-Pak reconstructor and K-PAK Intense Hydrator

I used to mix onions with eggs and put it on my scalp and hair during my perm days...

I was touching and MAYBE twirled a strand of hair located at the nape where the texture tends to be loser, and it broke off in mid strand! No bulb at the end, NOTHING. I know this has to do with the lack of moisture (no DC or wash going on 3 weeks now b/c of pure laziness). But sometimes I think it could be lacking a combo of both.

No to mention my evil temptation to untangle dry hair. It started with my fingers and migrated the small-toothed comb. I couldn't control it; it was like trying to stop myself from squeezing a black head. That's why I don’t like buns too much because no matter what technique I use to initially place the hair for the week, my hair always tangles up pretty badly. Since I don't do twist-outs at work (that's my after hour look :) I now gather my twist-out strands and put them into a bun. Maybe not a smooth bun like when my wet hair is slicked back but it will do.

However, I'm due for a hard-core protein treatment because of other breakage I’ve been noticing for a long time. Since I learned that sometimes hair cannot lock in moisture if it is too porous and thus needs a filler (protein) I need to get on this. I finally bought the hard-core Aphogee treatment so I can always have it on hand. I’ll use the lesser protein treatments in between my Aphogee treatments like Dumb Blonde, garlic concoctions etc.

Some folks like Dumb Blonde too from Tigi.

What I do is stick to my 6 week Aphogee Protien Treatments and Moisturize my hair daily with Cantu Shea Butter. It has help my hair a whole lot.

Wait, garlic supplements stop shedding??
So that's why i don't have that much shedding anymore...lol!
Yay garlic supps

I went to the BS and saw 2 nighttime treatments. One was H20 Rose and the other intense night treatment. Which one are folks referring to on LHCF?

The Rose H20 is just a daily moisturizer. The Intense Nighttime Treatment is another product.

A home made garlic treatment stopped shedding. Unfortunately nothing has stopped my breakage. Im still working on it.

I never really had shedding...from stress a time or two.

But breakage I also do Aphogee the 6 week one every 6-8 weeks and moisture in between then.

I do this as well... Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment w/Balancing Moisturizer after that I deep condition under the dryer with Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner..

I've never had a problem with shedding but for breakage, I Chopped off my damaged, over-processed ends and found a good conditioner that worked for my hair.

How are you TLC1020:yep: Yes, I do the Apoghee shampoo Even. Primrose and then I balance treatment mositurizer. I d/c with a plastic cap with ORS Rep.Pak. I have been looking into Motions they seem to have a excellent line of hair products. I used Apoghee it is inexpenisve in my area and I like how my hair looks and feels afterwards.

CHOPPING IT ALL OFF! Being stressed and not eating properly my hair could not stop breaking. Finally I had to start all over again. I had my beautician cut it off and I love it. You truly have a new "attitude" when you can let go of your hair precious strands that are dead anyway and trade them for short but strong and healthy strands.

Henna and aloe vera juice/rosewater..with and without glycerin. I take iron pills often to help with shedding.

using pantene r&n mask as a leave in.

almost 100% halted my breakage...and added moisture.

in the past 4 days, i've lost like 4-6 small hairs from my head.

which is a miracle. i'm so used to my hair just coming out.

oh and avocado oil has definitely helped smooth/soften and nourish my hair

I halted breakage by getting a decent trim, Aphogee 2 step treatment, and conditioning with CHI, Trader Joes, and leaving in Cantu.
