Ok ladies is there any hair products I should be on the look out for when I am on vacation that I can't get in the states?

Ive never seen any special products when ive went but then again i didnt look specifically for any. Everything down there is very expensive because it has to get imported. I paid 10 US dollars for sone tylenol one time because i forgot to pack it. My best friend is from Dominica and she was constantly shipping toiletries to her family because it was half the cost.

If you are able to find cator oil, not the kind that you buy in stores here, but the strong virgin type you can get at any outdoor market. I know Haitian cator oil is one of the strongests, but you might be able to find on other caribbean islands.

BEWARE: The smell is absolutely disgusting, but I did have very long hair as a child when my mom used it when doing my hair.

During my vacation in Curacao this year, I went hunting for hair supplies in their stores and flea/open air markets. I specifically went looking for the Kismera hair line. On its site it stated that there was a distributor here on this island. I was not successful in finding this line. However, I found that they carried the same products that can be found here in the states.

This is a good thread. Like others have said, I never see anything different or worth trying and everything is more expensive because it had to be imported.

I love this island better than its big sister Aruba. I would love to move there permanently. No hurricanes, 80's all year long, super friendly people, the majority look like me and from your photo like you. Mistaken as one of them and was spoken to in their language - Papiomento (sp). Yasss this can easily be my new home.

I don't know about hair products but if you are going to be near St. Thomas, a sister shole wouldn't mind a bottle of the 150 proof rum.:lachen::lick: Have fun! lol

When will you be in the Caribbean?

Next summer. If I can get a good deal, maybe spring break. We want to take the kids somewhere, since they whine about us leaving them at home when we travel.

I also need suggestions for my graduation trip next December.

I love my travel agent, on the last cruise I booked with her she watched the sales and when a deal came through we got $700 knocked off the price or our tickets:grin:

if you like Dominican products, its cheaper in the Caribbean,
Well in all fairness I cant speak for all the Islands but St Maarten & of course Santo Domingo

coconut and castor oil

also cocoa butter.

Whilst you're there you'd be better off just eating all the tropical fruits and homemade sweets that you can, instead of trying to source products. Things are sometimes difficult to find

have a wonderful time

Where will you be in the Caribbean? If you are going to Haiti, the only item worth getting is haitian castor oil but because a lot of what they sell in the market is corrupted. Try to have someone at the hotel help you.

Depends on what island but the above mentioned stuff mainly oils like coconut and castor oil. Non hair stuff spices and fruits and local foods and stuff. Other than that rum that you can't get state side like white hennesey or rivers rum.

It depends on which island. I've been to the DR a couple of times on business and enjoyed getting the conditioners.

best rum ever. It's grenadian overproof 100% organic rum. Its just soo :lick:

When I was in DR I overdid it on buying conditioners. I was in La Sirena on the regular. Still trying to get through all of them.

When I was in Haiti I was in a very rural area and got a jar of castor oil made by an old woman who lived in the mountains. I think it cost me a dollar. I wish I had more of it.
