what should I be using to keep my hair from getting hard?

Last night I decided to flat iron my entire head with my maxiglide to see how it would look. I had some evoo and some carrot oil on my hair at the time. I put some fantasia heat protectant on as well. When I flat ironed my hair it was pretty straight BUT it was very hard. I don't have the products that you are supposed to use with a maxiglide and I am not sure if those are the ones that make or break your hairstyle. Can someone please tell me what I should use on my hair to make it soft, shiny and straight? Or should I just flat iron my hair with no products and only use the steam burst? When I look at the cd that came with the maxiglide it looks like the hair was flat ironed with no products on it. Please tell me what products I can buy in a store that will make my hair soft. Also, what are glass drops? I saw some in the store yesterday, I think they were called glass look, but they were $15.00 and were in a very small bottle. Thanks!

I think the less product you use the better. I use Redken Heat Glide with my Maxi (although I'm not crazy about the Maxiglide at all.)

"Glass" drops are silicon serum. (Which is what is in Heat Glide, too) The Heat glide is about the same price but in a big bottle.

You used too much product. Was your hair blowdried, airdried or rollerset? That plays a part too in how much bounce you'll have. I know that if I airdry my hair then flat iron, it will come out like yours did (hard feeling with no movement).

To get the best results from your flat iron, you should:

Rollerset and use water only.

Take out rollers and flat iron roots only.

Apply about 3 drops of serum all over your ends.

Wrap hair into a doobie.

Yeah, the best presses I've ever had have been with zero product. Just do a nice deep conditioner first.

I got exhausted trying to flat iron my whole head and this is exactly what I am going to do next time, since that's my whole purpose for getting the maxiglide, just to lay my roots down until next touch up. Very good idea!!:)

Also, the last time I flat ironed with the maxiglide, I let my hair air dry, but I used Rusk smoother and Surge as a leave in to let it dry, then I flat ironed. It wasn't hard (was silky), but at the same time, I have seen it silkier. I was wondering too if I should just let it air dry with no product next time should I decide to flat iron my whole head (but after the little handy tip above, don't think I will be spending time flat ironing my whole head any time soon!)......I was still trying to decide too whether to put the serum on the hair while it was wet or put it on after it dried and right before getting ready to flat iron. I used the product that Design Essentials make, but in reading the back of most of the bottles in the BSS, most of them contain all the same products (a lot of cones)....I know the serum gives shine, but does it also act as a heat protectant??

I just use a creamy leave in and some serum and my hair comes out light and fluffy every time. Airdrying vs rollersetting does make a difference in how my hair comes out also. The ends wont get quite as silky if you airdry - even with the steam burst. It' not really noticeable to anyone but me though so I still airdry most of the time b/c i'm LAZY!!
