I know there are a few of us here that use various oils but what do you use it for?

Since figuring out how to moisturize my hair, I am wondering what role oil will play in my regimen now? I haven't yet tried using oil in place of a moisturizing product on wet hair. If it doesn't have the same effect, it seems that my oils will be used for hot oil purposes and to add to conditioners. I don't know but I have a lot of oil over here. /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/huh.gif

Davine, I use my oils for hot oil treatments and add them to my conditioners. I guess another way to use them would be to add them to your favorite moisturizer or something like that. I generally don't use them any other way becuase I try to keep my regime as simple as possible. HTH

I mainly use my oils as an add-in to conditioners or as a hot oil treatment. I have one oil, Clairol Textures & Tones Light Moisturizing Oil, that I love to use on my hair following a spray in moisturizer (Joico leave-in).

I use oils in my preshampoo scalp treatment and I love the peppermint in C. Howse's conditioner. My scalp feels ssooo good after.

Hot oil treatments and to moisturize my ends 2x weekly. I've also enjoyed using castor oil most recently on damp hair. Been doing that with the avocado for a while now.

I don't feel guilty for having a store full of oils (namely my house) because I use many for cooking, salads and skin care, too.

aha! i tried something last friday nite. i made up a large bottle mix of about 10 essential and carrier oils (you name it!) plus castor oil and glycerine and WGO and honey and finally loads of peppermint oil. gave it a good shake. i shamppoed my hair on friday nite and sectioned my damp hair into 10 ponytails. i applied the mixture from scalp to ends and put on 2 shower caps plus bonnet plus silk scarf and went to bed. my goodness, my scalp literally tingled all NIGHT!!! i still got a good sleep. when i woke up i shampooed the oil out and deep conditioned (with Lekair cholesterol mixed with avocado oil) as usual and an ACV rinse. Result? shiny soft strong black hair!

i loved this intensive hot oil-stimulation treatment. with the cold weather my hair ends and scalp needs all the help i can give it. i will be making this regimen a friday nite regular /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

for those who cant afford the quite expensive Cathy's Ultra Black Hair conditioner, this is a great way to get your hot oil and scalp stimulation the night before followed by protein or cholesterol deep conditioning in the morning! the homemade oil mix can be replaced with a bottle of African royales HOT SIX OIL.

I use my oils for pre-wash hot oil treatment, and then to seal in moisture a couple times a week after moisture.

I use Barry Flecther Oil (which is largely made up of Jojoba oil). I massage my hair line with castor oil daily. Daily I moisturize my hair with Jojoba oil. I add olive oil to my deep conditoner. I always use oil before I wet set my hair. I believe that Oil is just as important as water for your hair. Oil gives my hair a nice sheen.

I also use oil (or serums) to seal moisture into my hair and in my preshampoos combined with conditioner that didn't pass my "regular use" muster.

My favs are Olive Oil and Jojoba Oil. Monoi is a close runner up - but it dries my hair some after a while.

I also like Olive Oil conditioners - like my beloved NACIDIT. I think of this conditioner as sort of a moisturizing/moisture retaining treatment.

I use oils as a hot oil treatment, especially during the winter months. I use it to press sometimes, for shine and also a little to massage my scalp and prevent dryness.

Since water is the best moisturizer there is, I use oils to help seal it in when I rinse my hair- usually several times a week. Therefore, oils are very important to me in regard to keeping the water, moisture level high in my hair!

Amethyst

I like oils for a pre-shampoo treatment and also as a finish on my ends to seal in moisture. Also, I use oils everyday on my hair and ends, hoping to prevent breakage. /images/graemlins/cool.gif
