I've used all different brands of relaxers and my favorites are Phyto II and Just for me in no particular order. I will be going back to Just For Me mainly because of the price but what makes a children's relaxer different from one specifically formulated for adults?

The pictures of kids on the box.

lovelymiracle, my current hairstyle is identical to your siggy picture!! I haven't stretched for 6months... though if you can do it.. I should try it myself! The longest I have stretched is 3 months.

but to answer your question, I don't think there is a difference...between children and adult box relaxers. The ingredients are the same the calcium hydroxide and the guanide carbonate(sp?) are listed on most of the boxes that I read...like the above poster said... the only difference would be the children's pictures on the box as opposed to an adults picture.

That's what I was about to say! I read a hair product guide when I was in B&N one day, it was a really good guide and it had all of the most popular relaxers listed with the corresponding pH and one of the kid's relaxers, I believe it was Beautiful Beginnings, had a pH of 14, which is as basic as you can possibly get. The guide recommended not to use children's relaxers on your kids. If you want something gentle choose a mild formula, usually mild relaxers have a lower pH compared to regular or super.

It's funny you ask this because my friend and I were just talking about this not too long ago because I was thinking about using a children's perm rather than one specified for adults. I'll get the same results I suppose.

***offtopic*** are those your babies? they are too precious!

I feel violated!!!

I always thought that children's relaxers minus PCJ was a lot gentler because I could probably leave them on for hours and my thick as a forest hair would still look and feel texlaxed. No guessing on what time or how long I've had it in or anything. I threw in the minus PCJ because that was my first relaxer and it burned most of my virgin hair off! Maybe I will stick with Phyto just because. Thanks ladies

OMG, PCJ did that! Sorry to hear that. When I relaxed I was deceived into thinking the children’s PCJ was milder. I guess I should be glad that I had hair left on my head.
